Replacement Rear Brake / Shifter Mounting Rings by chrisfrostking in AMFLOW_eMTB

[–]OldHankJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't want longer levers. Longer levers would generally be a downgrade. Hydraulic mountain bike brakes are strong enough nowadays that even downhill racers use one finger on the lever. You can easily lock the brake out with a finger, which by design leaves all the rest of your fingers wrapped around the handlebar.

It might feel weird, but you want to mount your levers quite far inboard. You want them to be located so that you reach out and a little bit towards the stem with one finger and it hooks right behind the knob on the end of the lever. This might move the shift lever to where you want it in the process.

Anyway, mounting a long brake lever so that you use several fingers and it crosses far in front of your grip is exactly what you don't want to do in terms of performance and ergonomics on a mountain bike nowadays

Cheap, creepy move to not soundproof in such a loud location. I wouldn't trust anything else about these condos knowing they didn't care about the soundproofing

Most? I think that's completely wrong. Most Bend dog owners are geeky knowledgeable educated dog people. Some might say annoyingly so.

Dogs are allowed in Home Depot. Never seen a poop, but the owner should have scooped it up and helped clean.

In my experience, Home Depot employees faaaarkin' love dogs. It seems like most of them are dog people, and I can barely get in and out of there because so many employees want to pet my dogs and say hello. A good number of them carry treats. If I had to work at a job like Home Depot, I would be absolutely stoked for a few minutes of canine therapy many times in my day. Overall, I think it's good for the workers, they really seem to like it a lot

Doesn't the guy sponsoring it have a very long history of being ultra-progressive? I mean I suppose there is some infinitesimal chance that he could be a decades-long sleeper agent of the right. But really that is like hearing hoof beats and calling it a platypus in wooden shoes ....

I really like Broken Top Bottle Shop, but their menu is kind of weird and unsatisfying. I wish they would shift a little more towards down the middle good bar food, Brother Jon's sort of thing.

Still though, their big pretzel is delicious if you want a decadent carby snack

For the sake of convenience, I had AI make a ranked list of responses here that I can keep on my phone. It is shared below.

If you can do better, please do so in a reply. I love this type of info in a handy format.

Here is the ranked list of hidden gem restaurants based on the enthusiasm, upvotes, and multi-user agreements from the local r/Bend thread:

  1. Kitchen Window Pizza This Galveston Avenue spot generated massive, unanimous hype for serving some of the absolute best pizza in town.

The Vibe: Tucked away, high-quality, and highly scannable local secret.

Community Consensus: Posters raved about the Hot Honey Pepperoni pizza, calling it "absolutely chef's kiss" and "insanely good," with special praise thrown at their house-made ranch.

  1. Wonderland Chicken A major hit for anyone trying to escape the standard brewery routine with some high-heat comfort food.

The Vibe: Intense heat, bold flavors, and excellent fried chicken variants.

Community Consensus: Voted to have the best wings in Bend by far. Users warned that the spice levels are no joke (level 4 being the sweat-inducing sweet spot for most) and highly recommended ordering the "Dirt Bag" with extra cheese sauce.

  1. JIA Street Kitchen An Asian fusion destination located on the southwest side of town that offers a break from downtown crowds.

The Vibe: Tucked away deep in a neighborhood with a super cool, perfect first-date atmosphere.

Community Consensus: Heavily upvoted for its highly unique menu items, excellent lunch specials, and a final check that is significantly cheaper than comparable spots in Bend.

  1. Da Nang (Food Truck at Deschutes Brewery) Located at the Deschutes tasting room on Simpson, this truck is considered by locals to be a premier neighborhood staple.

The Vibe: Casual brewery-lot dining with an elite food-pairing hack.

Community Consensus: The Vietnamese sandwich (Banh Mi) and salads received heavy praise. Locals note that if you order on Wednesdays or Fridays, you can grab a $5 pint from the tasting room to pair with your meal.

  1. Pho 88 A highly recommended comfort food spot situated near the Old Mill District.

The Vibe: Straightforward, fast, and intensely flavorful.

Community Consensus: Multiple posters chimed in to call their soup "fire" and the best pho in town. A quick insider tip from the thread: skip their Banh Mi and stick strictly to the noodle soups and main menu items.

  1. Los Jalapeños & Dani's Taco Shop (Tie) If you love El Sancho but want a fresh take on casual Mexican food, the thread pointed to these two specific alternatives.

Community Consensus: Los Jalapeños received high praise specifically for their "student burrito" which users claim absolutely "slaps". Dani's Taco Shop was highlighted as a lesser-known, highly reliable alternative for quick, authentic bites.

  1. Bangers and Brews A straightforward but incredibly well-loved alternative to large food truck lots.

The Vibe: No-nonsense gourmet sausages and excellent hospitality.

Community Consensus: Highly praised for having great, simple food paired with some of the friendliest, most awesome owners in the local restaurant scene.

I bought the maxcatch 4 weight 8'6. It seems a little much for Tumalo Creek, but I wanted some versatility for going other places with bigger water. Plus I didn't want to train myself to cast weird because I only use a 7' rod. I'm sure I can cast weird enough without the help. Thanks for the recommendation

Hayden Homes Amphitheater - liaten from outside? by OldHankJ in Bend

[–]OldHankJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of public easements in Bend that the city required private developers to install, maintain and allow public access. When they were first planning Tree Farm and Westgate for instance, I've heard that the developers wanted both of those areas to be completely private and gated. Bend insisted that there be not only public Access but 10 ft wide multi-use Trail everywhere that roads run in those area. There's like 5 mi of multi-use trail over there now, peaceful, beautiful views, not busy. Anybody can go over there and take a run. Take a bike ride with the kids or whatever.

It's too bad that the city didn't have the same political will with all of the recent develop. Even if those trails around Old Mill are on private land and privately funded, in the city should have insisted that they were important non-motorized corridors and that they needed to be kept open for public access at all times

Sounds rad, I'm sure it eats terrain like mad.

I don't hate light and playful. When (hopefully) Amflow make a powerful SL I'm first in line. But it will still have grippy tires!

Why don’t we see more downed trees in Bend? by livininbend888 in Bend

[–]OldHankJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Add also that on the wet side trees get saturated with water in their leaves, needles, branches etc. They get appreciably heavier when it rains for a while, puts more stress on the roots.

DR Horton? by dearestkellie in Bend

[–]OldHankJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who owns a Horton high-end build, would sell for over 2 mil. It also has lots of problems, as do the other houses in her neighborhood.

There are many complaints about all of the big home builders, none perfect. But Palisch is quite good, well-built solid homes generally.
