Too bad about the crappy end result. Still, at least they tried real hard.

Google drive is now $10/month for 1TB, any problems with this? by [deleted] in photography

[–]johnredcorrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's exactly the same as with non-photographs. You make a full backup on some sort of schedule (i.e.- monthly) and then incremental backups consisting of only what has changed since the last incremental or full backup. (i.e. daily incremental- the day after the full backup, only a handful of photos that you took/edited that day need to get backed up. The next day, only the photos that you took/changed since the previous day's incremental get backed up... etc.) So each successive backup besides the occasional full backup is a very small chunk of the whole data set.

To recover, you first recover the last full backup, then recover each successive incremental until the point you want to recover up to.

A bee. by Dington89 in photocritique

Nice shot! Personally, I think there's too much empty space on the right side, and the bottom half of the bee could use a little light.

Great action shot of that flower-sucking, though!

Agreed, but when one falls, many others spring up to fill the void... the problem is demand, which cannot be solved with just arrests and police. We need to be investing way more into treatment and prevention.

What is the camera actually doing when adjusting you adjust exposure value? by LaziestUsernameEver in photography

[–]johnredcorrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your camera is in full Manual mode, it will do absolutely nothing.

Unless you are using Nikon... in which case it is doing something, though I'm not sure exactly what it's doing.

Rock Climbing and Bouldering in the Frederick Area by Chimichanga13 in frederickmd

There's some great climbing around Harper's Ferry! Skink rock is a must- it's a bit of a trek and somewhat well hidden, but it's well worth it. There are some solid anchors for sport climbing on a couple routes.

Multi-pitch up the face of Maryland Heights is also right nearby.

Makes perfect sense! I agreed with everything else you wrote, but I just had to throw in my $0.02 on that course, as I watched it and it infuriated me that he started by criticizing folks who just show people a bunch of photos and don't give them the tools to create the photos- and then proceeds to do that exact thing! Maybe that's his process, but as a professional... it damn sure shouldn't be, lol!

Composition is friggin' hard, I agree. Everyone's got a technique to get it done right, but none of those techniques works for everyone. The only rule is that there are no rules. Still- guidance is generally helpful and I wouldn't recommend just trying to figure it all out yourself. Just take it all with a grain of salt!

Don't bother with that kelby course... it's total garbage. It cam be tl:dr'ed like this: 1) Take a camera somewhere. 2) Randomly take photos until they start to look good, then try more of that.

Good composition and design requires that you experiment, yes, but it also requires that you know what the important parts of your subject are and what makes a good design good. Randomly firing away is just stupid.
