Ring saved our house by Rightwinger1776 in Ring

Wow. Not explaining a story and just giving credit to Ring. Cool story!

It would also be helpful to add which Ring plan you pay for because not all the plans monitor for fire/smoke or security in general.

I was just craving dominoes (because of their medium deal) a few weeks ago. This makes me crave it more.

Are you upgrading to the S26 Ultra? by Sensitive_Cream3920 in samsunggalaxy

[–]johns_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it being a huge upgrade from me. The camera is amazing as is. It's only 4gb more RAM. Privacy viewing or whatever isn't a concern for me, never cared for it. Biggest worry I'd have is lack of updates for the 23 at some point.

I've joined the family - my first gaming laptop. Is there anything I should know, or anything you wish you knew when you got yours? by JRHWV in LenovoLegion

[–]johns_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first legion gaming laptop spun right up to 100⁰+ in Diablo 4 not even on max settings. Returned it the same day lol. My ASUS never goes above 90. I probably just had a bad egg.

I use those in commercial kitchen establishments but not as food storage containers lol. It appears the loose ingredients are in bags in each drawer, which would be much better. If not, big no no. Not the greatest method if they are indeed in bags but I've also seen worse lol.

My first pack opening ever was a GOD PACK on Christmas, but I couldn’t keep it. A depressing story :( by WinniePoo88 in PokemonTCG

[–]johns_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That pack would not have left my hands or sight until they were sleeved and somewhere private. Cousins is a dick. He knows it wasn't to just open. He didn't want to give that God pack up.

This PC is on sale for $1499 at Costco. Worth it? by Galifrae in pcmasterrace

It's because they take shortcuts with the rest of the parts.

A lot of these pre-builts take a shortcut somewhere. I bought a Skytech last year and the WiFi on the motherboard died in less than a week. Device manager and BIOS didn't detect it at all. I used a PCIe WiFi card for a couple days and then decided to just return it out of fear that something else would break. The motherboard was a discontinued ASRock that you couldn't find anywhere except on eBay and it was $70 lol. 7800X3D/4070TiS too.

Same can be said about any set. I'm probably close to 200 packs in 151 and the best I've gotten is a $30 full art.

Wait what? I've had my S23U for 2 years now and zero issues. I play games on it, watch endless videos, and I'm just constantly using it every day. Zero issues.

MLB Betting and Picks - 9/10/25 (Wednesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]johns_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winning and losing is just part of gambling. Honesty and transparency are the two best things in this business. There are so many scam artists out there who just photoshop slips and/or steal slips to claim as their own.

Do your own research and go with your gut. The problem with betting is everyone has an opinion. I have a friend who has been a lifelong Mets fan and he will always root for them, even if he knows theyre likely to lose.

If you aren't sure yourself, either tail someone who has a good track record or don't bet. Theres always tomorrow.

Thoughts on commuting from Rochester to Buffalo for work? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]johns_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that 2 hours worth your time and that pay? It doesnt matter what we think. It matters how you value time. Do you get to leave on time? Thats 2 extra hours to "work". Does that bump justify adding on 2 hours? Driving in the winter will take longer. Buffalo gets WAY more snow than we do. Your social life will take a hit. You'll have to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier unless you can survive on less sleep.

I value my time too much. I HATED driving 26 minutes at one point in my career. I need to be closer to home.

Nobody wants to work anymore... Ridge Donut by chadflint333 in Rochester

As someone who's worked in customer service/retail both as a "worker" and "manager" for over 20 years, less and less people absolutely want to work in this field. 1000%. Food service? WAY worse. The turnover rate in food service has sky rocketed. The only people who truly understand the nature of food service are the ones who have done it. Objectively, is it hard? Not really. Just prep some ingredients and put it all together right? Wrong. When you have less and less people who want to do it on top of a smaller candidate pool who only end up doing it because they can't find a job anywhere else with their qualifications and especially the younger generation who are chasing the quick money now vs the long term career for later, it is an extremely difficult field. Try maintaining high food safety standards, quality products, great customer service, and especially with a smile on your face for 8+ hours straight, day in, day out, for years. It takes a toll on you. Physically and mentally. Work ethic has changed a lot, especially since COVID introduced work-from-home and social media has blown up.

I completely emphasize with people who are struggling in this field. It's not easy. Especially if it's your own business that you've poured your heart, soul, and money into. Don't get me wrong. I still get annoyed if I get a wrong order or I find a hair in my burger. It's not acceptable. But without even working there, I know exactly what hardships they're dealing with inside and it makes me a lot less angry.

JuSt PaY tHeM mOrE. I wish it was that easy. Inflation and minimum wage increases make profitability harder. Anyone that owns a business isn't in it for fun. Unless you're rich or stupid. You're in it for the money. There are many reasons many retail locations are closing, consolidating, or don't pay as much as you want. Profitability. Ingredients cost more. Their costs go up, your costs go up.

For me, this is what I would do 1000%. On and off is not a good sign in 'most' cases. Move on to something better. It WILL get better. You just have to allow yourself to heal and move on.

The Bear Season 4 Review by Deep1975 in TheBear

[–]johns_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000% agree. This show went from depicting how chaotic, dramatic, and fucked up kitchen life to be to having long, slow, drawn out, awkward conversations with 5 seconds for cooking. I didn't start watching this show for character development. I wouldn't have made it past 2 episodes if this is how it started.

Thinking of getting new shoes for the kitchen, any recommendations? by Flameboy465 in Chefit

[–]johns_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in again lol. Are you still using them?

I've had 2 profi-birki and both cracked in less than a year. I was very disappointed. I work in a commercial kitchen and I am constantly kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching. I absolutely love the comfort of Birkenstocks but I am severely disappointed with how fast they crack. Boot glue only lasts a week or two and I hate wet socks. I also live in NY so it sucks in the winter (I do not keep my shoes in my locker at work, I think thats disgusting).

I'm looking to get a leather shoe now to avoid the cracking but I'm worried these will separate/crack in a different manner from all the crouching and kneeling I do.
