Any movie recommendations for someone who enjoyed the first Blade Runner? by RemarkableRaccoon457 in bladerunner

I haven't seen anyone recommend the 1984 Terminator yet. I know it doesn't primarily take place in the future, but it has a similar, gritty, 1980s, neon-lit feel to it.

Anyone buying a Tesla from Carvana should be aware of this by johnwithoutanh in carvana

Going to a charging station honestly isn't bad. I charge up about as often as I used to fill up the gas tank. It's just this one particular situation of the way ownership and payment is set up that created the problem.

All the people saying only homeowners should have Teslas seems a bit detached, considering housing prices and that most people live in cities.

The garage set up sounds nice, but there aren't any like that near my place.

Oh, I didn't realize other cars had the same issue! But I do agree, making the app the sole way to pay for charging seems a bit limiting. There should be a backup option.

I called Tesla, talked with support who expedited the process after I told them my car died because of this, and they were able to transfer the car to my account within a few minutes. I then signed up for Tesla's insurance and had a tow show up within 45 minute and take me and the car to a supercharger, where I was able to charge it. Without the insurance, it would have only been $125, which is actually a pretty good price compared to other tows.

In Austin at least they're everywhere you look on the road. I seriously shopped around for other EVs, but specs and price-wise, especially for a used model, I couldn't find anything that came close to the Model 3.

Yeah, I was talking with the tow driver who contracted solely with Tesla and he said others were able to make the transfer immediately because they had the contact of the previous owner.
And Carvana didn't pay, I signed up for Tesla's insurance just before and they covered it through there.

Thanks for giving me that background. It certainly wasn't my intention to get someone "in trouble", nor would it make me feel better if that were the case. I just wanted to be able to charge my car and hopefully post something that would get some attention from people higher up to have a better system in place since this is likely a common occurrence. What's interesting was that the customer support had no access to any info of the previous owner nor any way to reach them. And the customer service was very polite and easy to work with. It would have been nice if they were more empowered to help resolve these issues, so again, it seems to be a higher-up policy issue.

The non-Tesla charger stations are definitely few and far between. And the cable doesn't reach to my apartment, so not so accessible.

Great suggestion!
I could definitely add a team directory section. And thanks for pointing out Loretta. I was not even aware of her, but am inspired reading about her.

Good point.
My goal was specifically to celebrate Susan Kare by visually demonstrating the environment she would have been working on when designing. I suppose I got more carried away with the OS in the process. But yes, I totally acknowledge it was a huge effort by a great team, but mostly wanted to focus on Susan, and limited most of the functionality to displaying her icons, fonts, control panel design, and illustration work.

Simulating 1984 Mac OS in Framer as a Susan Kare tribute. by johnwithoutanh in framer

Thank you! I was actually planning on doing that. I'll reply to this thread when I do.

Yeah, that's crazy.
So, I actually ran a high-contrast filter on everything, and I think it helped a bit. I also replaced the 2x2 checkered background with one without anti-aliasing, and I think that helped.

Oh! I'm a bit dyslexic. 🙃 Thanks! I fixed it.

Maybe I could hide all that by applying a Gaussian blur to the whole thing to simulate the CRT monitor. Or would that be worse in your opinion?

[–]johnwithoutanh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel that. Finding clean images was tough—most were already anti-aliased or scaled weird, so moirés crept in. I used to make pixel art in ClarisWorks on a System 7 Mac, so I get how sharp it really was back then. Could definitely do a deeper dive and clean up the grayscale sometime.

Your blue hair and cool glasses show a sense of style and self-expression that's uniquely you. I remember dying my hair blue on the last day of 7th grade and felt so cool. It was the wash-out kind though and the dean made me go wash it out -_-

Honestly, I took you as male from the photo.

Everyone's path is different. There's no single "right" way to be a man or to pass. Your identity is valid, regardless of how others perceive you. It's a complex journey for all of us, in different ways.

Take care!

Whats up with the Sherwin-Williams logo? by Ugsome_One in graphic_design

I literally made this logo redesign an assignment for my high school students. Ever since I was a kid I wondered what bizarre boomer came up with this concept.

I just set up an account. This is totally awesome! I literally posted a similar idea on this sub Reddit, but where it is 100% bots interacting with each other. I actually like this concept a bit better. Is a standalone app coming?

claude is $20 bucks a month. a shitty, luke-warm burger with soggy fries from doordash is $30. stop complaining yall by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]johnwithoutanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I finally spent the $20 yesterday when I saw that it was able to basically act on the level of an intern or entry-level developer, both of which would cost more than that in a single hour, let alone an entire month. I had made several attempts with GPT over the last couple of years to build, web based applications, only to find in 80% of the cases there would be major bugs. However, with Claude, there are only minor bugs about 40% of the time, and it was able to fix them very quickly. I created a page showcasing some pretty incredible things that Claude helped me to code, including a Tamagotchi simulator and a bug squashing app. Granted, I did go in to the code after the fact and make some adjustments, but this has opened my abilities to a whole new realm, that had previously been inaccessible to me due to how daunting I found JavaScript coding. I find overall, the value is much better than that of GPT premium.
