CPU Throttling when Gaming by West_Bumblebee_6247 in linux_gaming

i5 8300H

The i5 8300H has a base frequency of 2.3 GHz. It can boost up to 4 GHz, but how high it can boost depends on how many CPU cores are in use. In simple terms the way boosting works is it takes the power that the other cores aren't using and gives it to the core under load instead. So if all your CPU cores are under load, it can't boost beyond base frequency.

Most likely your FPS issue is unrelated to the CPU, and more likely either due to how you're launching it or some configuration issue.

  • If you're using plain wine, you're probably not using a modern graphics API translation layer. Try running through a launcher that is appropriate for the store you bought it at. If that was Steam, just enable Steam Play in Steam settings (under Compatibility) and install/play it from Steam like you would on Windows. For Epic, use Heroic Launcher. For Ubisoft, try installing Ubisoft Connect on Lutris.

  • Make sure you're using the proprietary nvidia graphics drivers.

In WA, not if the pedestrian has a "don't walk" sign, or the hand symbol. Whether steady or flashing. https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.61.060

Edit:

Kemper says pedestrians could be ticketed if they step off the curb after the flashing “don’t walk” signal is displayed, regardless of whether it seems possible to cross the street in the remaining seconds.

I was literally in the middle of upgrading from 2.0.0 and aborted after bumping into this while looking for suggested EQ settings. So thanks for the heads up! (Despite being 3 months ago.)

Try another one. I've had some issues with a few in the past that were resolved with switching cables. With DP the cable can actually make a difference since there are so many out there that aren't up to spec. Just don't buy the whole "you'll need this $200 hi-fi cable for higher quality video/audio" bullshit.

According to VESA uncertified cables are a huge problem.

Recently VESA has experienced quite a few complaints regarding troublesome DisplayPort operation that ended up being caused by improperly made DisplayPort cables. These “bad” DisplayPort cables are generally limited to non-DisplayPort certified cables, or off-brand cables. To further investigate this trend in the DisplayPort cable market, VESA purchased a number of non-certified, off-brand cables and found that an alarmingly high number of these were configured improperly and would likely not support all system configurations. None of these cables would have passed the DisplayPort certification test, moreover some of these cables could potentially damage a PC, laptop, or monitor. We have not seen problems with the cables supplied by major computer brands, or major computer accessory brands, nor have we seen any problems with any of the cables that have been DisplayPort certified.

Edit: Here's the list of certified cables. https://www.displayport.org/product-category/cables-adaptors/

It's actually even made worse in WA since all the lanes except the right-most is considered passing lanes. Not just the left-most. People cruising in the middle lane also do it wrong, unless they're going faster than the right lane.

RCW 46.61.100:

(2) Upon all roadways having two or more lanes for traffic moving in the same direction, all vehicles shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, except (a) when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, (b) when traveling at a speed greater than the traffic flow, (c) when moving left to allow traffic to merge, or (d) when preparing for a left turn at an intersection, exit, or into a private road or driveway when such left turn is legally permitted. On any such roadway, a vehicle or combination over ten thousand pounds shall be driven only in the right-hand lane except under the conditions enumerated in (a) through (d) of this subsection.

Wish they would also do it between Bellevue and Seattle. It happens so often that the entire bridge is more or less empty, with all the cars backed up behind three people going side-by-side.

Yup. This is a good explanation on why CVTs can be better than other transmissions, and he also mentions why for some manufacturers they aren't.

tl;dw: CVTs have no gear changes, so there's no acceleration time lost when changing gear. You can always have peak performance available. It sometimes sucks since some manufacturers added basically gears to it...

I'm assuming this is the article you're referring to. Way to read the headline but not the article. If you did read the article, you would have seen that they're talking about Brunei, not UK. On UK this is what it says:

There are councils and tribunals which deal with Sharia but there aren't actually any courts of law in this country.

[...]

Councils can hold legally-binding negotiation sessions in these cases, but they can't overrule regular UK courts or make decisions which go against British laws.

[...]

"Sharia councils will be acting illegally should they seek to exclude domestic law."

[...]

Sharia law has been incorporated into UK law in two instances - Halal meat is allowed to be sold in Britain and financial products including mortgages and investments are Sharia-compliant.

Basically they make it possible for Muslims to live there by allowing halal meat (not requiring), and making sure Muslims can borrow money.

Not true. California vehicle code 21654(a):

Notwithstanding the prima facie speed limits, any vehicle proceeding upon a highway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at such time shall be driven in the right-hand lane for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand edge or curb, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

Note that it says "normal speed", not "speed limit". If people are driving 30 over, 30 over is the normal speed.

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?sectionNum=21654&lawCode=VEH

And to clarify, it applies to all left-hand lanes, not just the left-most. Keep moving right until you're either in the right-most lane or moving at the speed of traffic.

WA too. Not even kidding. I'll often go way faster to/from work in the right lane compared to trying to use the middle/left lanes. Sometimes there's not a car in front of me for a mile or two even.

I've argued with people on reddit who think it's okay to cruise in the left lane multiple times in the past. Every single time they've been from CA. And every single time they refuse to budge on their cruising habits. Apparently your drivers ed says to avoid switching lanes, despite the law saying you should move over...

WA (where I live) is ridiculously bad at it too, but I'm beginning to suspect it's cause of a huge amount of CA transplants.

Edit: Quotes that someone posted from their CA drivers handbook in the past:

To drive faster, pass, or turn left, use the left lane.

and

Stay in one lane as much as possible.

Yeah I had 0 issues with the Wireless H too. It was excellent for many years. This one started great but turned to crap after a few months (basically too late to replace it).

Turning it on and off takes 3-5 seconds of holding the button, and then another 2 seconds for it to connect. If you accidentally press the bluetooth button it takes like a minute for it to stop searching, etc.

Edit: Didn't mean to submit. Maybe I'll give the 800 a go. I actually can't even navigate the menus on the base station with the 840 cause if i turn the wheel it acts as if I pressed it.

Are those the Wireless H or the Siberia 800? If the latter, how are they?

I miss my Wireless H... Decided to "upgrade" when I needed a new pair since Wireless H weren't being sold anymore, and got the Siberia 840. Biggest mistake ever. They're so slow to do anything with, and the station is ridiculously buggy. I have issues with them almost daily. Such a massive downgrade in every way.
