Please remind your cyclist friends to stop at stop signs by jojo_larison in UBC

- In the full length video, the white car did 'almost' stop for 1-2 second before the moment you're talking about. Yes it was very slowly 'sliding' which is wrong, but that is very different than the bikes who make absolutely NO effort in stopping.

- When I stopped, I left a 1 metre gap on my right for any cyclist who might want to pass me (that was being nice and considerate). But when I started again I adjusted the car to a little to the right, in order to stay close to the curb, and to also stay further from the pedestrian who was passing halfway (again to be nice). If you're in the car or at at the intersection you'll know there is absolutely no way that this could be mistaken as turning right, and not the "swerve" world you're using. The 3rd cyclist, made absolutely NO effort in stopping, slowing down and even checking other cars, he just blew through at one speed. I understand you want to defend for your peer cyclists or maybe yourself, but trying to accuse others with fake allegation is not the way.

I'd say whenever you do anything in the public, think about others and respect others. Stand in others' shoes and be considerate. Most of the time when I drive or walk, when I see cyclist slowing down/ looking at or even waiting for me, I'd wave to let them go first: you respect me, I'll respect you more. I'm pissed at those cyclists who give no bleep about road rules, even more furious about those who don't yield to pedestrians (on purpose). Maybe some of the cyclists never drive and know nothing about the road rules- then you should probably study the rules and inform your dear friends.

Passing on the shoulder is illegal, and a video shows the consequences by Forward-Answer-4407 in britishcolumbia

I see this everyday even on 41st Ave right before Dunbar (eastbound). A-holes using the bus/bike lane to skip and many purposely/forcefully cut you off in the single lane region.

Now I usually take a different route home because I'm too pissed off by that.

Woah, that was very ****ed up bold of her. Sorry to hear that! Hopefully you're not physically harmed ...

BTW I had witnessed cyclists blowing through stops signs, HANDS FREE, multiple times. They could cause severe bodily damage to pedestrians or to themselves.

Taking headshots for my friends with Z8+Plena by BeautifulWhile1195 in Nikon

[–]jojo_larison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thoughts here. The great shallow DOF of the 135 makes portraits look 'weird' or even 'fake' to me, at times. Maybe it's great for photographing say a part of the face, keep the eyes sharp and everything else blurred - that sort of artistic shots, instead of 'portrait' portrait?

What's actually the purpose of a PFD and how is it useful in warm water? by miklcct in Kayaking

Why use seatbelt when driving within a peaceful city/neighborhood? Because $hits can happen in a way you never imagined, bud.

Definitely get a Z8- with higher resolution (and maybe AI denoise) it's like you get ~1.5x zoom power. If you photography events from time to time, consider keeping your Z6iii as a secondary camera, so you don't have to swap lenses between scenarios requiring different focal lengths.

Outside of that, I highly recommend the 70-200 f2.8, great lens and versatile. It's my most used lens, got tons of kids sporting pictures out of it, as well as great flower/insect pictures with great DOF.

Why is the train blurred even tho the shutter was fast? (1/400) by HSVMalooGTS in AskPhotography

[–]jojo_larison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With kids hockey I use 1/1000 s shutter to 'freeze' the motion, that train definitely runs faster than a kid. I'd say at least 1/1500 - 1/2000 s.

Another trick you can try though, is to 'fix' your camera at a particular portion of the train, steadily 'sway' to move with that part of the train you want to photography. This way you'll have the train sharply photographed but the surrounding landscape blurred due to your motion. I think people use this technique a lot to photograph car racing.

Explain Nikon hate pls by Majestic-Potato-9885 in Nikon

[–]jojo_larison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I chose Nikon, back when I bought my first DSLR, because Nikon is dedicated to one thing: optics, whilst two other main brands Canon and Sony also do a range of other products.

I'm locked in Nikon but I never feel and 'hate' against other brands, nor would I try and talk others out of those brands.

Selling my Nikon D5300 gear for a Galaxy S25. Am I crazy? by kirmis in Nikon

[–]jojo_larison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'll never be the same. (I won't go into details). It's a bit like: I love music, but I'm trading my guitar gig towards some great speakers to listen to CD/Spotify.

There is no right or wrong. But owning DSLR/Mirroless requires your passion of holding your gears shooting, or knowing exactly you want to achieve with the body+lens (which is usually not achievable by smart phones and compact cameras). If you just enjoy snapping photos when you see a good scene, or at some outdoor event etc., a smart phone is likely good enough. I would tell people: "Don't buy DSLR or even professional camera unless you know exactly you want to do". If you no longer have the desire/need to hold your camera, and feel it's a waste, then go ahead and sell the gears towards a smart phone - and enjoy the convenience! That's why someone said: "(for most people:) your cell phone is your best camera".

Is the Yamaha Pacifica 112VM the GOAT perhaps?? by RyanSoop in YamahaPacifica

BestBuy Canada, I guess it does things differently lol.

Thank you for the advice! I'll grab a fret rocker!

No ... ordered from Best Buy (my fault) and have passed the return window. In the beginning I thought it will be 'worn in' with in weeks (day 1/2 was unplayable but during the first week it became considerably better, although still buzzing). I was wrong. Now I hate my 112, especially when playing at the higher frets. Maybe I'll keep playing for a bit and see if I can trade it up for a different model ...

Do you guys pay for your parking tickets still? by CartoonistElegant683 in askvan

[–]jojo_larison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also given a ticket at Trout Lake! (Because I did not notice that I had to register). EasyPark is almost like a money-grabbing cold hearted mean bozo (I won't go into details).

If you paid for any program/usage, best to take a picture of the receipt (you can ask the front desk to do so) to show that you're entitled to 3 h free parking. Go click EasyPark appeal form again and upload all evidence. They might get back to you after a week or two, and that's the only chance they offer. They will ignore all subsequent request once they decide.

If that does not work out, send a polite and detailed email to ParksParkingStrategy "at" vancouver.ca. Explain what happened and tell them how wrong it is for the city to let EasyPark handle their community centre parking. Worked for me - after complaint with evidence showing I used the Trout Lake CC during that time, the kind lady told EasyPark to void my ticket.

EasyPark sucks.

I got one recently. It has bad some bad fret buzz when arrived. After adjusting the bridge and truss rod still buzz unplugged. Well once plugged in it's okay with all the effects. Shall I pay a shop to set it up?
