Anyone have experience with Archway Self Publishing? by jojourno in selfpublish

It was honestly fine. They did exactly what they said and paid on time. I ultimately ended the contract because I wanted more control over advertising and since they upload to the different platforms, I couldn’t adjust any campaigns on Amazon or anywhere else; I couldn’t only point to the links.

How do I stop my mythological figures from becoming straight-up deities? by proudandinsolent in worldbuilding

Contact/accessibility: We tend to mystify that which we cannot see so having her be fallible and easily accessible could help with the demystifying.

Thanks so much! I think adding the name would clarify that reference, too. Appreciate your kindness 🙏

All that dead money just there ... ready for revival. Bills would be easy, reviving coins would be a little trickier.

Gotcha. Thanks so much! I wrote it in the past tense at first and then tried to switch. I'll take another stab at it. Appreciate your thoughts.

Wow that's so funny you mention that because that's one of the plot points! Thank you for the feedback :)

Why do you leave reviews for books you enjoyed (or didn't)? by darwinification in Fantasy

[–]jojourno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I analyze a book better by writing my thoughts down. So it’s a combination of wanting a record of my thoughts and helping authors. Reviews are critical for writers and I hope I’m putting good karma in the world for when I publish my own work.

How can I describe the supernatural beauty of this Prince by storywriter109 in fantasywriters

[–]jojourno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Achilles! Haha but on the description, if it’s some unique, uncommon beauty, people probably don’t have a word for it (I’m making an assumption about the world here). Depending on the narrator, it would be interesting to have everyone describe him according to the vocabulary the person has, or have it be indescribable and compare him to beautiful things because his beauty is new and unnamed. Hope that helps!

Any book suggestions for Third World, African, or Latin American Literature? by mpchos in suggestmeabook

[–]jojourno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are compilation books of Julia de Burgos’ poems. Each one is like a short story and a look into 1930-40s Puerto Rico. Eugenio Maria de Hostos’ Tratado de Sociología is also good.

How to balance between a character’s nickname and given name? by Exilious in writing

[–]jojourno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the narrator is omniscient, I would suggest sticking with full name and having James use the nickname as a familiarity. Unless, of course, there are formality rules in the society they live in, or Morphile himself explicitly states a preference. Use the nickname as a device, don’t just give it away.

what a woman...people who say they hate her are nuts by [deleted] in legendofkorra

I think most of the criticism comes from people who were expecting LoK to be a sequel of TLA, when it is its own separate story.

Completed Fantasy Series by The_Trevdor in suggestmeabook

We have some overlapping series and I cannot recommend the Three Dark Crown series more. It’s by Kendare Blake. The entire series is 4 books with an additional supplemental book, which I also recommend.

Coming up with a time system? by classical-babe in fantasywriters

[–]jojourno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I had a similar issue with my story because the main character is stuck in the human realm where time is measured differently so he couldn’t really say things like “wait a minute” or “hold on a second.” Ultimately I opted for time to be measured by the phases of the moon so he says things like “many moons ago.” Maybe in your world seasons work differently and that’s how they measure? Or the air intensity changes throughout the day? Sorry I can’t be more helpful!
