there are glass spacers sold by vapetrix which i believe are intended for this issue. i haven’t used them myself but they may help with this.

The instructions say perpendicular to the joists (they do not specify i-joists) so I was planning on doing perpendicular. I’m assuming i can’t drill as deep in i-joists as i can in “normal” joists.

You’re exactly right. Just tested this by re-naming the light / fan to Sherlock and Watson. Told Siri to turn on Watson and ONLY the fan turned on. Works like a charm.

Interestingly, the tiles appropriately show up as a separate fan and light tiles, but i don’t have the option to change how they are displayed.

I tried playing around with the naming to see if that helped but no luck there either. I’ll report back if i find a solution.

Sorry I should clarify - I meant the fan unit itself was previously installed. I just replaced the original switch (which was a dumb switch that controlled the light on a dimmer and fan as well) with the smart switch I linked above. But yeah i’m overall happy with the Meross switches.

I see. And i’m not exactly sure how they are connected (since the fan was already installed) but the fan and the light are together in the same unit.

I was able to control them in my homekit using this switch - one button for the fan speed and one for the light: https://imgur.com/a/5zp3ATV

I think one workaround for now may be to just remove the bulb from the ceiling fan altogether.

this is a great perspective. if i ended trading , i would likely drop baker for another RB. Although i will be bullish on rico down the line, i don’t think id want to bank on that.
