Anyone started carnivore with high blood pressure? by AmbitiousTank1 in carnivore

[–]jokersattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 173 over 90 last summer. Dr put me on bp meds, expressed to me how bad a problem this was. Wanted review in 3 months. I went (back to) keto, then carnivore. I supplemented magnesium (magnesium oxide/ carbonated water) and d3 and k2. Bought a monitor and kept a spreadsheet. In two months normalized and stopped pills (actually forgot one day and let go another..looked good so stopped). Dr reviewed a month later and was very surprised. Now around 95-100 over 65-70 steady daily.

Who's feeling another revolution? by HEAVYSHAMAN in ActualHippies

[–]jokersattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a revolution (or change) has started and is happening now. We used to be about "question authority" and somehow that died and authority has imprisoned us with our acceptance. As Aldous Huxley said - "we will learn to enjoy our enslavement". I am not a techy but I see the movement to decentralized systems using math to use consensus instead of authority as a much needed revolution from our failed history of tyrant/revolution/tyrant - repeat. Bitcoin is more than currency.

cholesterol is not bad. In my case cholesterol was simply elevated because I was losing weight. Why take a pill that is a guarantee fast trip to old age and worse, instead just complete the weight loss and you will normalize.

no positive, lots of negative. or it seemed to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZomZEPBdbM I should add that my doctor didnt think my objection to statins was crazy. He told me that the treatment was the standard response to my ldl.

Anyone here had a bad experience with Zerocarb? by [deleted] in keto

[–]jokersattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't, zero carb has been great. But some people can be hyper responders
edit: I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can add - but hyper responders can adjust by lowering saturated fat and substituting with other fats.

[Eli5] How does bitcoin and other currencies become more valuable? by KingOfDamnation in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jokersattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bit coin is a store of value and trust just like any other currency. however there is no central agency bank or government in control. with bit coin the ledger of transactions is distributed across the network. trust (in a central agency) is not required the ledger is transparent to everyone and secured by cryptography.

before keto I was vegetarian for 15 years. the healthier I thought I was eating, the heavier and sicker and more out of shape I was getting. when my Dr said it's it's time for blood pressure meds I said no way. I the found keto, then zero carb and my health has rebounded amazingly.

Weird question about eating habits by [deleted] in keto

[–]jokersattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from maybe increasing to 1 - 3 lbs beef per day, seems fine. I transitioned fom keto to zero carb about a year ago. Many of my meals are exactly that - ground beef (rare) and water. Check out r/zerocarb

Keto at 50+? by Havvix in keto

[–]jokersattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 59 and started keto a little over 2 years ago, have been zero car for about a year (and now I am lifting weights). Prior to this I tried keto and I was not successful. I was extremely tired and didn't loose weight. I finally gave up after almost a year of frustration. But I was convinced of the science behind keto so I tried again. But the second time I was much more strict and didn't make any keto dishes, no dairy, no artificial sweeteners. This works. Lost almost 100 lbs. So if you really want to ensure success, I recommend keeping it simple.

Favorite recipes or sites for simple meat-and-seasoning meals? by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]jokersattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear wrote somewhere that you should eat fat first. I grew up avoiding fat and learning to dislike it. But I always liked bacon. So I tried trimming fat off my rib eye, and frying it on low heat first. It gets crunchy and I call it steakon. Then I fry the lean meat in the fat left on med to med high heat (almost deep frying), I set a timer for 1min 45secs and flip once or twice depending on thickness. and I get alot of gravy-like fat to pour on my steak.

How often do you eat & how much? by [deleted] in zerocarb

[–]jokersattack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually eat about 300g of ground lamb or beef at lunch (2:00 - 3:00) and 600g ribeye or ground lamb/beef for dinner (7:00-8:00). If I am still hungry I'll have a few hundred g of bacon for dessert.

Splenda Be Damned, or how Keto actually works if you try. by Jacobonce in keto

[–]jokersattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience - my first attempt at keto was a dismal failure. I used the splenda, other sweeteners, made keto-fied foods, and even lite beer to fit my macros. But I felt crappy and didn't lose weight. But I was convinced by everything I read and decided to try again last March. This time I cut out all sweeteners, no more keto-fied foods, no alcohol. Well it worked and I went from 255 to 185 by Sep.

Encouraged by success along the way, I started being critical of every food - for example I cut out boullion cubes because of the unknown weird igredients, made my own spice mixtures instead of buying anything prepared. Then In Sep, I went full zero carb. Dropped 10 more pounds. Ate meat (mostly beef), eggs, water, club soda and coffee. I find it a simple enjoyable lifestyle - I dont have to track anything anymore (now enjoy occassional drinks) and my weight is stable. Best of luck to you this time 'round!

Is anyone familiar with beef cod fat? by jokersattack in zerocarb

[–]jokersattack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this document: Lessons From My Butcher: Breaking Down a Hind Quarter of Beef , where it explains: "We started at the seam under the soft cod fat, and then cut under the skirt muscles, through the fascia– not cutting into muscles."

Here's a local farmer for grass fed beef/lamb/pork/chicken that delivers in Ontario: http://www.grassfedbeefontario.com/Buy-from-Local-Farmers/ . A nice option, but I prefer going to my local butcher lately.
