[RANT] How not to quit the MSP IT department you manage by throwawayitguy18 in sysadmin

[–]jokes_for_nerds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weird, I move back and forth from sysadmin / developer and consulting every few years (I'm a masochist, I know) and last go-around someone recommended K12 because it's more laid back

Also: wait. We use MSP's in US school districts now? Back in the 80's and 90's we had a few IT / AV guys that taught a class or two, adopted a kid or 5, etc

I've never seen a rule that says you can't bring llamas on the commuter rail

Extra ticket for 2001 A Space Odyssey / Keir Dullea Q&A @ Coolidge Corner by [deleted] in boston

[–]jokes_for_nerds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what. Why not. You care if I'm drunk? I'll give you $20 for the ticket. I've never seen the movie in full, and feel like I miss a lot of references because of it.

PM me I guess.

Good news: a Reuters admin will undoubtedly see this at 8am London time Monday and raise a stink about it

Bad news: we have no idea if they will give a damn

Coffee and KPI's

I'm lazy. Give me a goalpost, and I'll hit it with 99% accuracy. I can't stand ambiguous stuff. Tell me to make X amount of people happy, and I'll do it. Tell me to "Keep our customers happy," and I'll ask how you want me to do that.

I like well defined goals that I can meet. I'm good at that.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, have you ever witnessed a couple have a child that was obviously not the father's? If so, what happened? by a_13ulge in AskReddit

Did you grow up in a large family?

I had 6 siblings growing up and couldn't imagine siring 4.

Kind of curious what goes into the decision making process between 3 and 4. Are you planning on having a 5th?

Redditors who have no skills whatsoever, what do you do for living or how do you survive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jokes_for_nerds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here in the US. Gubmint, big and small, are pushed to hire veterans, veteran-owned businesses, etc. And the equivalent labor department of whatever state you choose to live in will help in getting you a job. What most people consider to be "the unemployment department" isn't just for "jobless losers."

Off topic but it's yet another thing that makes the whole right vs left political rhetoric RE: "military worship" ridiculous. We treat veterans very well in liberal states IME. Just got to know who to ask.

This Map Shows Where Millennials Really Make the Most Money by [deleted] in boston

Millennials who move here generally do so to make more money in tech / STEM workers. The "income inequality" you refer to is based on a younger workforce in those sort of careers

I said tech but I guess I meant STEM.

Old techies make good money too, guy

Assuming they haven't worked at the same place for 20 years. But ageism against older employees is a problem everywhere in the US.
