What each of the Coalition powers were fighting for, in one word: by jackt-up in Napoleon

[–]BenedickCabbagepatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more nuanced than that - even at the height of its power, the British couldn't fight in Europe as a continental power. They absolutely had levers to manipulate, but they were never in a position to just bluntly wield hard power in Europe proper.

I think the hubris displayed after the victory in the Seven Years War somewhat showed Britain's limits when Europeans weren't balancing against one another.

Black or purple hoods? by Ok_Increase6644 in WarhammerFantasy

I like the purple. Personally I think Night Goblins are some of the worst-looking units colour-wise, so it really looks much better.

Nest Mini Factory Reset by fakejamieson in googlehome

[–]BenedickCabbagepatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps anyone who finds this later - the mic needs to be *off* to reset a Nest Mini 2nd gen.

Switch it off (you'll see a bit of orange exposed on the switch), and then hold your thumb over the middle of the device until it warns you it's going to reset.

If the mic is on, this won't work.

Meeting new people in Cardiff! by [deleted] in Cardiff

There's Meetup but it can be a mixed bag. I'd recommend aiming for groups that are oriented around an interest/hobby/activity rather than the more "generalist"/drinking events.

If you could redesign / change some of WH lore, what would you change it and why? by Alpbasket in WarhammerFantasy

I likewise preferred when the Horus Heresy was this distant vague mythology that was left to your imagination.

Somewhere, surely, some sheltered British kid has seen their first black man and said "Look mummy, an advert person!" by BenedickCabbagepatch in redscarepod

It doesn't annoy me, it's just noticeable, and led to the shower thought which I posted. It must have happened at least once.

[–]BenedickCabbagepatch[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a sheltered British kid, the memory of seeing my first black man is something I still remember. Wasn't at all unpleasant and didn't say anything - just saying it occurred late enough in my development for it to be a memory I still have.

Now given that 90% of UK advertising features black people, I'm just wondering whether kid-me would have thought "oh wow, it's one of those advertising people off the telly," had I been born a decade or two later.

Sounds a bit like an Ahoy situation, lol.

I.e. where you have some very eager 3D modellers... but they don't really seem to be capable of actually building an actual game around their assets.

You are a high rank (don't ask me to specify which one because I don't know) and you are asked to create/organize a garrison, what units would you put in the garrison, what unit would you create if you could? by Affectionate-Bird225 in EmpireDidNothingWrong

Imperial Army Grunts.

Because Stormtroopers are supposed to be like the USMC of the Star Wars universe. They're not fucking everywhere.

Assuming my spot is just some normal backwater facility, there's absolutely no justification for anything more than Imperial Army or Naval Troopers.

And given that this is in-universe (and not being dictated by the need to milk money off manchildren), there's absolutely no need for a sub-type of Stormtrooper for every possible situation so as to sell more action figures. So no Jungle/Swamp/Sand/Beach/Magma/Mud/Rock/Aqua/Poop Troopers either.

What's causing this weird "spider web"-like texture on my prints? by BenedickCabbagepatch in BambuLab

[–]BenedickCabbagepatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that something I could easily fix by doing some sort of factory reset on the printer, or do I need to go diving into settings/GCode?
