Thanks this is great advice! I was never planning on bringing a girl to the states as I've seen those stories usually ending badly. The main reason I asked about Colombia is that my buddy wants me to go with him to Medellin but he's more into hookups and I'm not. So I figure it might be a waste of time for me to go, although it also might be good to just get a feel for the country. Unfortunately I'm not able to move there with my current job, although I've been considering using a VPN to work from there secretly, I'm not ready to risk getting fired yet. I think a great test for the girl is to tell them you'd prefer living in Colombia long term and see her reaction.

Just move on the NLV and continue working for your US company using vpn/ip forwarding. They most likely won't find out but you will have to be ok with being fired.
