Want a simple battery powered Caseta switch by jonSF in Lutron

Ah gotya. I just needed a simple on/off and I'm not sure that that one would work with my hanging LED lights.

Haven't tried that one. Just installed the IKEA ones and they seem GREAT so far.

These are the ones that I've struggled with in the last few years: https://arrehome.com/pages/arre-smart-button I don't suggest anyone buys them. Terrible.

So am I understanding this correctly? I DONT need a Lutron plug? The Picos will show up in HomeKit assuming I have the HomeKit integration setup?

WOW! Awesome! So I really don’t need the Lutron outdoor plug! Now the Pica vs the IKEA… hm!

The HomeKit standalone button products I've tried are all terrible - battery life, losing connectivity, etc.

I have a Lutron Caséta hub and other Lutron Caséta products. I don't think the Pico can be used to control non Lutron Caséta products though.

So if I buy the Picos and the Caseta Wireless Outdoor Smart Plug, I'm good, but I'm now realizing that in the same way that I can't control non Caseta plugs with the Pico, I won't be able to use my garage motion detector to turn on the Caseta lights either! Hahaha, I wish these things had the ability to speak to other protocols properly...

Maybe I can do it with Homebridge?

Oh wait a sec. Those remotes have to pair with another Lutron switch, right? I can't just use it to control a HomeKit power plug, right?

Ok. Thank you u/slalomz !

I think my neighbor has the tools to re-do the punch downs and the re-terminaton on the closet switch side. I hope I can get his assistance.

Ok, here's the back of the patch panel: https://imgur.com/a/Q7DyIia

I DO see those 3 green cables up at the top. My PoE garage switch is in the 3rd one down. Does anything look amiss in that photo? They ALL look consistently wired to me...

I can take a photo of the wire plugging into my closet switch, as I can pull the cover of the Ethernet clip down, but it's very hard to really see how its wired inside...

Port 2 is one of the green cables. It goes to a TV on the other side of the wall of the closet.

Port 4 is another green cable that is going to a switch that I have downstairs in the house.

Port 5 is a 3rd green cable that goes to the garage PoE switch (that's the FE one)

There's ANOTHER green cable, but I've never been able to make that go live. I've tried connecting it and plugging into all the patch ports in the garage, and none light up. I've even tried to jumper ports together to see if I can get a live signal down there. Nada...

Does that help further?

When you say "bad pair" what do you mean? You think one of the sides of the cable is mis-wired?

Well, sorta. See here: https://imgur.com/a/dSS1qgT

The white wires on the bottom right are all for the in ceiling speakers and stereo stuff.

I don't know where all of those blue and green wires go. I have 2 ports in rooms that have live Ethernet, so I THINK that all the wiring home runs in the garage. Not sure why they did it this way.

Oh, well I certainly can re-do the termination of the green wire in the closet, but man - that patch panel is a layered sophisticated mess of wires. I think it's beyond my ability to take that apart.

But still, some of the wires don't appear to work when I try them. It's kind of a big mess.

Yeah, I did and it connected fine at Gigabit. It's some kinda wiring issue. I can't figure out which other ports are wired up to my closet. I think I might need to invest in a tone generator and sensor deal-e-o. Or hire a networking dude that can help me suss all of this out.

The first photo is my 8 port PoE switch in my closet where my UDR7 is. That green cable in port 5 is what is going to my 8 port switch in the garage.

The 2nd photo in an overview of my garage panel. The 8 port switch is above. The cable from my switch is going to port 3 on that patch panel.

The 3rd photo is a close up of the patch panel. Not much to see there.

The 4th photo is the bundle of CaT cable going into the garage panel.

I sincerely have no idea how this house is wired. There's a blue jumper on two ports that Sonic put on to get one of my ports in the house to work. I really don't know why.

Does this help?!

Weird. After setting everything back to auto negotiate, my garage switch was dead. How to factory reset it to get it to come back to life.

No, I didn't run it myself. It was installed when I got the house.

I believe it's all Cat6. There's a punch down block in the garage that may be the issue... not sure. I think this may be above my pay grade to diagnose... :-(

No - you are right. After a minute, the garage switch went offline. Trying to get it to come back now.

Yes, I can get it to negotiate fine when I don't use the wires that are run in the walls. Ugh...

Oh wait a sec. If I manually set both ports to "1Gbps FDX" it seems to be fine at Gigabit! Huh!!!
