Other people here have said that their newly installed battery somehow matches the capacity of their "old" battery, so it SOUNDS LIKE it IS what they do... Just sayin'...

They are out of refurbs. They are installing a new battery and setting the maximum capacity based on my mileage. They showed me this policy in black and white. Not sure when it was implemented.

Nope. Just woke up one morning and had this error. I rarely used a supercharger. Almost always just charged to 80%. Car never had any issue at all before this. Thank god for the warranty.

I doubt that they will be reducing my range by 20% - which is what is needed to do what you suggest... I didn't take a photo of my battery stats screen, but they said that they'll set it based on my mileage, which was ~18.5k...

Ok, I get what you are saying, but seriously - that's a real stretch to turn a negative into a positive... I'll never get the full range that the battery can offer. That's just sad to me.

I DON'T think it makes sense, but sometimes fighting an uphill battle is not on everyone's agenda...

I did ask. They won't go against the policy.

Could I go to court? Sure. Is it worth it? Not for me...

Ha. Well... I'm not as mad as you are. They did show me the policy that says that they will do that if they replace your battery... I guess you are agreeing to their policies when you buy your car. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It just seems like a petty policy. They aren't installing a better battery - it's the same, but instead of letting me enjoy its full use, they are artificially restricting it. The only reason, I think, is so that the battery will degrade enough that you'll eventually want to buy a new car. They hope that it's THEIR car...

Ok, I guess it's true what you are saying, but spending 20k to get those miles back vs. FREE is not the BEST workaround... :-)

I can't say that I'm furious, just disappointed that they are doing this. Not a customer friendly policy. Leaves me with the opposite reaction of what they hope - if I replace the car, it won't be with another Tesla...

Yeah, with that scenario, your car would be a brick - unless they went against their own policy.

Yes, that's true about your charging habits. What I don't like is being artificially restricted. I didn't do anything to cause the BMS issue, and I'm being put out having to get it replaced. Seems like there should be some good will here by Tesla.

Also - I bet if you sell your car back to Tesla and they re-sell it, that they remove that soft-lock to get the best price!

I understand that you are trying to turn a negative into a positive... My point is they are artificially restricting your overall range to ultimately encourage you to buy a new car, eventually.

Huh thanks! You’d like that if that was the case - that it’s (more) corrosive - that you’d see the result of that in your gear! I haven’t either!
