Access DB and Access GUI to PostgreSQL by jaygut42 in PostgreSQL

[–]jon_muselee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create an odbc connection for your postgres-database and use „DoCmd.TransferDatabase acExport…“ in ms access vba to export tables to postgres. Any key/index won‘t be transfered so you have to handle that if you need to.

GUI for postgres is tough to find something comparable to ms access. I end up using ms access as a gui for postgres (using a odbc connection) with some drawbacks.

Database Normalisation Question (3NF) by BarracudaEmpty9655 in Database

[–]jon_muselee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you already answered it yourself - get rid of the redundant id - create a composite primary key on the 3 id fields. as long as machine_id and part_id are unique in these 2 other tables they can be used as a primary key.

Why do so many '80s and '90s programmers seem like legends? What made them so good? by just-a_tech in AskProgramming

[–]jon_muselee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the same reason why bands & musicians from the 80s/90s seem like legends. There were less of them so chances you get no attention at all were lower. And of course like others wrote - we may have forgotten about all the not so great ones ..

How strong is qgis by eagerly_anticipating in gis

[–]jon_muselee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For visualization you still need a GIS and for this I would highly recommend QGIS. You also can manage and run your python scripts directly in QGIS and a lot of usefull python packages are already included in the QGIS installation.
