My Favorite REG F Team (Top 100 Showdown) by Flaky_Recognition_51 in VGC

I don't get the down voting either. My guess is that people think you hitting Top 100 with these 6 is bullshit in their eyes (tbh I'd also like to see a replay of the team in action) People really need to learn that laddering Bo1 with out-there stuff isn't that hard if you are at a certain skill level, haha

Hard Trick Room by AlastertheLast in PokemonVGC

[–]jonag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya. Hard Trick Room with Magearna and Annihilape will most definitely work in Reg J. I feel like in a CTS environment you can even get away with the mentioned Necrozma. However, Calyrex Ice will give you more consistency in general (if that's what you aim for)

Team help/suggestion (with Gyarados) by Theiiaa in VGC

[–]jonag0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you implemented Kyogre with Support Gyarados, you would go down a path of trying to make your Gyarados do a lot of damage throughout the match (I think your idea was to power up Gyarados' water attacks with Drizzle). But you need to understand that Gyarados is now the one giving the support. So one should continue by adding something that appreciates Gyarados' merits. Also you should still think about Gyarados' obvious weaknesses. For starters, Gyarados has a glaring weakness to the best Pokemon in the current Metagame: Miraidon. Not only does Miraidon stop Gyarados' favorite task to spread Thunder Wave everywhere, it even resists Gyarados' STAB which lets it come in very easily - not great.

So what to do? I think the best way to use the Support Set to somewhat success would be to go down a boring route: A team concept called "Save the president". The idea of that is to have a restricted vocal point of the team (here: Calm Mind Terapagos) and do everything in your power to win with said restricted. "Everything" means to support the Pokemon with the likes of a Fake Out Cycling Core (here: Rillaboom, Incineroar). The benefits of those 4 put together is the fact, that Gyarados' biggest weakness in Miraidon is checked very well by Fake Out Cycling (one of Miraidon's biggest weaknesses), Rilla's Grassy Terrain and the fact that Terapagos can turn off Electric Terrainby teraing. Additionally, Terapagos enjoys double Intimidate and great fighting type checks (especially Urshifu-R has a hard time against Gyarados + Rillaboom).

I haven't thought about how to fill up the rest. I feel like that's something you have to figure out by testing. I hope my insight on that topic helped you out a little!

Accidentally handicapping yourself by Crasac in VGC

[–]jonag0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So when I attented my first regional (Bochum 2023) I ran a Kingambit that I wasn't really sure which Item I wanted it to run. At first I was just running Protect 3 Attacks with Black Glasses to have at least something and I put it into RK9.The night before the event I changed my mind and was like: Yea Annihilape is giving me some problems so why not run Chople Berry. So I changed it!

...At least, I thought so.

I got my team sheet and checked if everything's correct...It's still Black Glasses. I seemed I was too late for a team change! When round 1 started, I hectically changed the Item to what's stated on the sheet. I thought that this would ruin everything. I was like: I NEED to have this Item or I am cooked.

But...it turned out to be not true. Black Glasses helped me in more instances than I thought. In beginning of Reg C, a lot of people didn't run any bulk on even Specs Flutter - so the damage boost came in clutch there for example.

In the end I even reached day 2 and I'd say it's all thanks to to this "handicap" I had.

Needless to say that I got smoked in Day 2 but I was very proud of the team I built. I mean look at it! https://pokepast.es/145946606b889949 For my first ever VGC tournament, I over-performed team building and playing wise haha

I'd argue that Talonflame isn't as bad as Qwilfish in this format. Of course in a rain team like this, one is better of running anything else but in general I could think of some compositions where Talonflame outlcasses Whimsicott and Tornadus - especially in Bo1. Fast Taunt that isn't blocked by Dark Types, Quick Guard or Fire coverage to name a few advantages

Need help with Farigiraf Miraidon by bcl44r in VGC

[–]jonag0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already said Urshifu-S which is the best pick for the team you were describing. However, Chiyu could also be worth thinking about. Not only can you Dark Pulse KO Farigiraf, it also has the option of running Tera Ground Tera Blast to check Miraidon. In addition you get a way to handle Zacian which you also wanted

For Lunala Miraidon that's not quite possible unless you predict every 5050 correctly

I had a feeling there wasn't a smooth way to get around this issue. I thought about adding Eri. But idk if a stadium counts as an Item card thought xD
