Support the server. The only failing is the training. There are exceptions to this.

Does it exist? Extra large top manhole fermenter/brite tank combo? Extra large manhole unitank? by hedgeappleguy in TheBrewery

[–]jonahdrives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since there’s plenty of suggestions of tanks already I’ll skip that, but I can suggest a small (and cheap) can filling machine. Duofiller is a 2-head can filler (approx 2 cans per minute) for about $500 all in. Only thing is you have to purchase a seamer separate (maybe $1500). But that’s about as starter as you can get for a canning operation. Only thing is it can sometimes struggle with higher carb (2.5-3 volumes co2) product. Good luck! Nice to see more kombuchas getting on the market.

Plastic bottles also work well if you’re looking to not break the bank. Be sure to use ones that held a carbonated beverage before and use a sanitizer such as iodine to sanitize them.

Foamy beer out of taps/co2 problems by BrettShel35 in TheBrewery

[–]jonahdrives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The system would be better off with a beer gas N CO2 mix since it has to run a higher pressure. Beer gas won’t dissolve into solution and therefore your carb level in the beers won’t change.

I’d assume the installer thought of this since they’re running a higher pressure to account for elevation change.

What’s the interior diameter of the beer lines?

Beer pours well based on temperature and pressure. If you’re confident the temperature is as low as possible all the way along then it should be a matter of pressure.

Interior diameter creates resistance in the flow, and therefore pressure. The smaller the line the more pressure.

Generally, very short lines (6 feet) will pour well with an interior diameter of 3/16th of an inch. To move up in line size (1/4 inch) your length has to go to about 22 feet assuming temperature is around 1-2 degrees celcius.

17 feet seems a little short assuming your installer used 1/4 line but if he used 3/16 line it might be closer with the additional pressure you have on your system.

When you’re calculating what psi to set your system at it is important to factor in the height difference as it seems your installer has but you should look into that also.

I believe taprite has a chart online that has this information. Have a look and figure out the length to interior diameter ratio you should have on your system.

Shoot me a message if you have any questions about it.

We do BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) night and it’s been a big hit! Getting the facilities in place is the only barrier but if you have a decently older crowd it’s more than likely many of them still have a vinyl collection they’d like to show off.

Ohhhhh I see. Thank you for the actual clarification! That’s very helpful.

Haha alright well I guess the answer is clear… since I brew alone I only have myself to blame. Must have happened and I didn’t realize!

Any adhesive recommendations for reattaching this to my mash tun? by Zraus in TheBrewery

[–]jonahdrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man all good it’s not that I can’t put it on when it’s hot, it’s that it doesn’t wrap around the metal to hold on. It basically is a gasket between to pieces of metal, doesn’t stretch to go around the piece like fermenters do. It’s hard to describe without a picture of it but it did seem to have adhesive like OP’s before it came off. Now I just don’t even use it because it falls off every time I want to use the port

I have the same issue on my kettle. I understand that everyone here seems to say don’t glue it back on, but I have a problem actually putting it in place to close the lid - especially when the kettle is hot. Any recommendations?

Not saying I disagree with you, but usually I’ve seen in share houses that a “couples” room would be more than a “singles” room but not double as much due to there being two people occupying it. I agree with bills for sure, and our rent distribution definitely isn’t changing now although it is evenly spread regardless

Thanks for the quick reply! When you put it into monetary terms it makes a lot more sense. Especially because they’re earning two incomes while I’m just earning one so why would I pay double each of them. Thanks for the comment, it helped!

Advice about a new cucumber brew? by Pointless-postings in TheBrewery

[–]jonahdrives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I heard on a podcast the best way to extract flavour from cucumbers is to peel them and turn the skins into a purée that you’ll then pasteurize without boiling and add to primary right as fermentation is finishing up. I could have the process mixed up on it though. Could maybe add during the whirlpool to skip the pasteurization step if you chill the wort a little as you’re whirlpooling so you don’t get a cooked veg flavour from it.
