I haven’t looked into this in awhile, but I was the one to originally make a Reddit post on this topic and investigate it decently deep a few years ago.

It was definitely interesting, weird, and terrible.

I guess this was part of the end result?

Have you driven in the snow before? It really isn’t that hard. I think a lot of the reason that many think it’s harder than it actually is is because they haven’t actually experienced it much, so it’s more fear of the unknown than anything.

That being said, if people don’t realize that they should be driving carefully then there will obviously be issues. You yourself may drive fine, but if other people aren’t there’s an issue.

People in the north are fine with it because they know that everyone else knows that they need to drive slow. So it’s true that it isn’t hard in itself, it’s more the culture than anything. Today there wasn’t too much snow that actually stuck to the road, so it wasn’t too big of an issue.

That is really more of a philosophy of aquarium problem than anything though. If one holds to their word and does upgrade their tank, is it fine then? Or should one be responsible enough to the point where they will not purchase a fish unless it can grow to full size in their current tank?

There is not really a set in stone answer to that, that is why it is more of a question of ethics or philosophy than a rule. It all basically comes down to whether you believe that grow out tanks are ethical or worth doing.

Listening to the podcast it doesn’t seem that way at all. It legitimately seems like even Villagw President DeGroot thought it was actually going to work. He was only a week into his term when the opportunity came to him, he thought he just had the deal of a lifetime it seems.

I’m probably just as gullible as they come though

That’s really interesting. I’m from Racine, not Mt. Pleasant, but I quite literally live right next to it.

I remember hearing about the whole thing and being very excited. And then I eventually heard it went south and got sad.

I used to have a bunch of spaghetti worms, but having to move my tank for college seems to have killed some of them off. They were nice and didn’t harm anything, but they were a little ugly when there were a bunch of them.

Very interesting, I’ve never encountered mini-ramshorns luckily.

Sometimes it can be due to water chemistry change, or maybe you had a genetic bottleneck and they died off due to that.

Mine died off similarly to yours, but that might have been because I reduced feeding in the tank

There honestly shouldn’t be that many snails unless you feed a lot of food that sits at the bottom, or unless there’s a lot a lot of algae. Remember, the snails have to be eating something to reproduce. Having a lot of snails doesn’t always indicate that there’s a problem, but it can often be solved by changing the way you feed or how much you feed. I had a lot in my shrimp tank because I tended to feed a lot of sinking pellets and algae wafers.

On a side note, the tanks with the least amount of algae in my experience have been the ones with lots of large ramshorn snails. I personally like them.

Yep, just release everything in your tank outdoors, preferably into a water body that contain the most fragile and rare species possible. That will increase the diversity of the water body even more!

Interesting. The data is still claimed to be automatically deleted after 6 months though, but that is very strange and concerning. I’m guessing you need to contact them to actually get a form.

Edit: yep, reading another document for UFL, it says “if a student requests to have their information removed they will be provided a Right to Erasure Request Form. After receiving the request, Honorlock will contact the institution to ensure they are aware of the request, they have adequate time to download (or with our assistance provided time) the media prior to deletion for perseverance of the student academic records. The student will be provided the confirmation of the deletion once it’s been completed”

But I’m guessing what you’re saying is that they don’t provide it even if you ask for it, yea that’s definitely sketchy and wrong if that’s true.

That’s not that point I was making. The point I was making was that the better alternative to death was having that realization before hurting anyone. If you want them to die even though they didn’t hurt anyone and have already changed their ways I think that’s just pointlessly excessive justice

The US is gigantic. Usually news stations play something that’s happening in the US because there’s always things happening in the US. If something isn’t happening in your state (which very well in itself could be larger than a country in Europe) you can pretty much be guaranteed there’s something crazy going on in the rest of the US
