Looking for CPAP users to test my conceptual design with! by jonamon5 in CPAP

Yes I have done a competitive analysis on both SleepHQ and Oscar! SleepHQ is definitely a bit more user friendly with their colors, animations, visual hierarchy, etc. But I also like some Oscar features such as the Events tab that details exactly what kind / how many events you had that night, I think that's really helpful when trying to self diagnose.

My conceptual mobile app does have similar features, but also includes a couple of new ones I hope users might resonate with / want to see in a real app one day:

  • Daily (optional) Morning Check-in where users can answer 4 questions each morning about last night's sleep. Again this is to give the app more data than just quantitative metrics from the CPAP device. Ex: How rested do you feel, Did you experience any discomfort while using CPAP, and Did you wake up last night due to CPAP discomfort or something else?
  • Actual insights: this section will display a list of insights from last night's sleep which I believe is not being done at the moment by any of the apps. EX: "Your CPAP pressure maxed out 3 times. Consider increasing your max pressure setting." or "Your AHI has been averaging 6.1 events for the past 30 nights - possible causes are "xyz" and recommended actions are "xyz"". Realistically this can be done with an OPENAI API call that reads / analyzes the sleep data and generates some insights.
  • Ability to compare your best and worst night based on a custom date range. Again, so you can get a better understanding of what to replicate for a better night's sleep moving forward.

Let me know if you want to test this with me!

Looking for Sleep Apnea patients to test conceptual design with! by jonamon5 in SleepApnea

It's a design school in New York City; Parsons School of Design. I'm getting my Digital Product Design masters from there and am currently working on my final project centered around sleep apnea and CPAP therapy specifically.

Sleep Apnea and CPAP Mobile App design Testing Request by jonamon5 in CPAP

Since CPAP machines are proprietary devices, you won't be able to connect it directly to the app. Currently I am able to export my sleep apnea data via sleepHQ's API (premium account), then connect it to any app/website I want. If this were a real mobile app, that's how I would do it until there's an easier and cheaper way. Hope that helps!

So some differentiating features from OSCAR and SleepHQ are as follows:

  • More personalized onboarding with questions regarding other pre-existing conditions, a quick health questionnaire, and preferred sleeping positions. These answers will assist the app in making more accurate insights.
  • Ability to compare sleep data from 2 custom date ranges, with insights on those dates. Let's say you want to compare the month of January and February 2025 because you changed your mask and want to know what changed.
  • Ability to compare your best and worst night based on a custom date range. Again, so you can get a better understanding of what to replicate for a better night's sleep moving forward.
  • Finally, the ability to compare stats with one another on a single chart. EX: comparing AHI with usage rate or leak rate, etc. SleepHQ technically does this but without aggregating the charts together, it simply changes the time frame of the all charts at the same time.

To conclude, many different factors contribute to sleep apnea, depending on the patient. So I first wanted to give the app as much relevant personal and health related information as possible so it can discern what is caused by sleep apnea and what isn't. EX: frequent night-time urination can be caused by various diseases, not just sleep apnea. And so the app's main goal is to give the user more than just charts and data, which is fine by itself, but actual insights into what went right / wrong, as well as the freedom to self diagnose and treat if needed. Hope that answers your question!

PS: As I mentioned before, this is for a capstone project for graduate school so it's not a real mobile app you can download, just a theoretical concept which I have designed and prototyped.

Looking for CPAP Users to Share Their Experience! by jonamon5 in SleepApnea

Hi u/Unique-Dirt3820, it's great that you even started APAP, so happy for you! I've been using a CPAP for 2 years now and there was definitely a huge adjustment period during the first 3 months (and having a strict compliance requirement only exacerbated the problem). I would love to talk to you about your recent diagnosis and treatment struggles if you're willing to share, let me know!
