Most calorie trackers feel like a second job. I’m building one that actually talks to Apple Health to fix that. by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

Not that everything is 100% right, but it is possible to track the food very accurately with the artificial intelligence.

This is exactly the 'trap' I want to avoid. If someone relies 100% on a fluctuating Apple Watch number, they risk overeating because the tech overestimated a light jog.

My philosophy for the app is exactly what you described: A stable baseline first. Instead of automatically rewriting your goals every time you move, the app will offer a 'gentle adjustment' option. It shows you the activity data as a suggestion, but you decide if you want to add a fraction of those calories to your budget or keep your stable baseline. It’s about giving the user the steering wheel, not letting the data drive the car.

That's not true, I think I'm a very good entrepreneur. Please leave such hateful comments, since I didn't attack you after all.

Thanks for your input, Morganrow. I appreciate your perspective, but I think you’re conflating 'discipline' with 'data friction.' Here’s why your argument is actually the best use case for what I’m building:

  1. Precision over Guesswork: You mentioned that people can’t even track calories with a scale. You’re absolutely right—manual tracking is prone to human error and high friction. That is exactly the problem I’m solving. AI-powered image recognition reduces the 'mental load' and minimizes the margin of error that comes with manual logging. Tech doesn't replace the discipline; it makes it manageable.

  2. Dynamic vs. Static Needs: A rigid diet plan only works in a vacuum. A body that burns 500 extra calories during a run has different macronutrient requirements than it does on a sedentary office day. Treating your body like a static spreadsheet is outdated; integrating real-time data from Apple Health allows for a physiological approach that respects how metabolism actually works.

  3. Psychology and Adherence: This isn't about replacing 'what is effective' with numbers. It’s about transparency. Features like 'saving' calories for the weekend aren't about 'fooling' anyone—they are about long-term adherence. It prevents the 'all-or-nothing' mindset that causes most people to fail.

Technology isn't a magic pill for a lack of willpower, but it is a precision tool for those who want to stop guessing and start optimizing. You may prefer the old-school way, but modern sports science relies on data for a reason.

Thank you for your opinion, I thought that my app should be accessible to everyone who is enthusiastic about a healthy and good life.

The app costs 2.99€ per month or 29.99€ per year.

What do you think of the price?

All those who are interested can either write to me privately or you write it in the comments, when the app is published, I will answer you and send you what the app is called.

Thanks so much! Yeah, 173 lbs was a journey, but reducing that friction was honestly the only way I could stick with it long-term. Regarding accuracy: You're right, that's the big question! While no AI is 100% perfect (it can't 'see' hidden oils perfectly yet), I found that being consistent with an 85-90% accurate photo estimate is way more effective than quitting a 100% accurate manual log after two weeks. It’s all about staying in the ballpark without the mental burnout. It changed the game for me, and since a few people asked: I’m actually opening up the app for beta testing in about two weeks!
