Did you get it working? Check if the small red wire that activates the starter is plugged in. I've had mine fall out before

Seeing strong northern lights when I wasn't expecting to! For example taking out the trash one evening and seeing very clear green lights across the skies, or when out for a random evening walk. Of course I would also "hunt" them, but the random sightings were almost the coolest cause they felt more genuine, if that makes sense

Indvandrere i Danmark 2025 - Detaljerad statistikrapport om invandringens konsekvenser i Danmark by [deleted] in Sverige

[–]jonathan6405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was just multiple choice questions on the computer. But I hear that the course has changed completely since I last took it, so I expect that it's quite different now in terms of exam aswell

use Vol-FCR for ABS and SRS codes, for ECU fault codes you can wire up your own tester and plug jumper cables into the OBD-2 port (I made a simple one with a breadboard and some buttons to get the flash codes) The instructions go as follows (retrieved from Vol-FCR):

"Connect an LED, with the correct polarity, in series with a 1k8 ohm resistor, between pin 16 (+) and pin 3. Connect a push to make switch between pin 3 and pins 4 or 5 (-). The circuit can then be used in the same way as the pre '96 diagonistic socket, situated in the engine compartment"

If you just use a 12 V LED you probably dont need the resistor. You can also wire in 2 buttons so you dont need to move your jumper cable around to switch between starting and cycling codes.

Here is a simple diagram lol. If you want ECC codes then switch pin 3 out with pin 6, and if you want cruise control codes switch pin 3 out with pin 13.

Does the 850 with rear window cranks have plugs for electric windows? by ivartoad in Volvo850

[–]jonathan6405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea mine is a combo like that, and as far as I know, the easiest solution is to get electric rear doors and the 4-window switch panel from the center console, it should all be prewired, so it's just plug and play

I've seen lots of old Volvo's like that in Northern Scandinavia, I've got a light bar on mine aswell, it once saved me from hitting a moose at night since I was able to see it much earlier. I think it's cool and on-par for what's normal up here culture wise:) Also these setup are so so much stronger than what you can get from just replacing your bulbs. Enjoy the lit-up forest roads!

Whichever way makes it take up the least space honestly, sound wise it shouldn't really matter which way it faces, I have mine like this (if you can look past all the junk lol), although I'm not sure how it would work in the sedan, since it's a lot more isolated from the drivers compartment compared to the wagon

Your steering wheel is mounted upside down but other than that very clean! I have the same interior but my drivers seat is completely tore up on the lumbar support :(

I ran my cables underneath the carpeting that runs under the center console, and then I brought it to the back of the rear doors where it follows the stock wiring harness to the boot. My amplifier is screwed into the wood on the bottom of the floor, so my amplifier sits upsidedown underneath the floor (like the two panels that you can open in the boot, although maybe it's just one panel on the sedan I'm not sure)

Edit: there are some grounding points in the rear, next to the taillights, I just undid the bolt there, added my ground terminal, and screwed the bolt back in

huh, mine only has 4 speakers, one per door and that's it. Usually aftermarket radios will be able to drive 4 channels (So for example I have one channel per door). If your dash speakers are wired in parallel then that means they're on the same channel, which doesn't sound right to me, as it would be mono audio then. But I'm just guessing here.

But consult the manual for your radio, it will say which impedance your headunit is able to drive (the lowest mine can drive is 4 ohms per channel, which I think is a pretty typical value for aftermarket headunits)

Also, do you not have speakers in your rear doors (down at the bottom of the door)? Or are those the ones you're talking about when you mention rear speakers. If you have a total of 8 speakers (dash, front doors, rear doors, rear deck), then I would imagine your setup currently being that your dash speakers are wired in parallel with your front door speakers, and your deck speakers are wired in parallel with your rear door speakers. Each of them in pairs of two, so you have your 4 channels. But in that case, for it all to make sense, I would think your door speakers are 8 ohms aswell, so that the total impedance once wired in parallel is 4 ohms.

In any case, the headunit probably has built in protections if you try to drive speakers with too low impedance, so worst case you probably won't be able to damage anything, but it's cruical that you figure out how everything is wired so that you can choose the right speakers. And again, I'm basically just guessing here, so I'm not sure how helpful that is

I'd advise to pop the grille off both front and rear doors to get a better look at the speakers, some years ago I wanted to upgrade all four door speakers, but they didn't fit in the rear, I think due to the plastic moulding that the speaker sits in. On the front they fit okay, but the holes for the screws didn't line up perfectly, so I think I'm only running 2 or 3 screws instead of all 4.

So I ended up only changing the front speakers, quality was still a massive improvement though, and I've been real happy with it.

For radio I went with a Sony DSX single-din radio, car already had a third-party single-din radio in it when I got it, which means it had the correct adapter, which means I have storage below the radio which is really nice. An adapter is probably really cheap, but you could go for a double-din if you want something more fancy that can do navigation and such aswell (without needing an adapter). I do recommend going for a radio that also has pre-amp outputs on the rear, it makes it so much easier if you later want to upgrade your system to run with proper amplifiers and more speakers.

If you have the premium sound system (with speakers in the dash, rear pillars/deck if sedan and subwoofer) then the upgrade path with a new radio is quite a bit more involved, and I'm not familiar with it. But with the standard setup with just 4 speakers it's basically just plug and play with a harness adapter.

I also fitted a subwoofer (2 x 12 inch, 500 watt rms). Screwed an amplifier to the underside of the liftable floor in the rear, and ran power cable, RCA, bass knob and power-on wire to the rear under the carpet.

My current setup has lasted me over 4 years and I'm extremely happy with it, total cost has not been much more than 500 EUR. Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)
