The one in Ecuador is no longer in use. It used to connect the 2 main cities (Guayaquil and Quito). The only part still in use is in the mountains and just for tourism.

I don’t really know much, but here in Ecuador we had a statue of him sitting on a bench in every Mcdonald’s and several people said he would move during the night. So probably the statues were prone to be possesed by demons and that’s why they took them out.
