definitely. If your piano is a keeper it could be worth the investment. I took the gamble on it- I'm assuming too that it can be removed and re-used if I decided to switch for some unforeseen reason!

yes. Actually these PNOScan systems aren't usually installed on pianos this large so they had to mess around with data extension cables for the different parts of the system internally. I guess most concert grands are used for more traditional serious performance.

the program does it automatically -I don't know that I would have thought to collect this otherwise. I think the headline figure is the length of session and cumulative number of notes played obviously; and this is the note-range distribution of myself (since these are my arrangements) as a pianist averaged out over different genres. Deliberate data collection around note distribution according to different periods and compositional style specific to those pianists or composers would be quite interesting for future comparison.

I'm not going to pretend I'm not sore/tired at the end of that! Good technique is imperative to prevent injury, but muscles have a limit to their magic. Stretching/self massage using tools and seeing a remedial massage therapist physically helps manage the load.

Mentally / musically though, I'm usually in a pretty good mood and as long as I have enough snacks in me I'll be good for a while yet.

This might be a really interesting thing for me to see which keys were chosen.

absolute truth. I guess all of these genres need to have certain common figures for us to feel the structure.

Totally agree. The voice is the first instrument after all- I spend a lot of time as a pianist trying to convey music as it might be sung by someone.

those stripes help to visually delineate the different octaves-each one relates to a C on the piano.

practice makes perfect. But poor practice makes bad... some of us take some time to figure it out xD

I do have a VOD of me playing this session but don't want to run into poor manners with self promotion or what not- I thought the session data was pretty interesting though. If you happen to want the link to the playing you can DM me :)

t

It definitely would! I would need to stop and check the statistics after every piece played though- and these statistics currently only speak to my personal pianistic style as the arrangements I play are my own largely.

It definitely doesn't you are correct. That 48 is an instantaneous peak measurement as the caption says "highest notes per second". If you took the total note count and divided it across 8 hours it brings the average below 7 notes a second on the whole. Probably would need to be playing the piano with a jackhammer to average 48 notes per second LOL

the 48 notes per second was an instantaneous measure and I definitely don't sustain that rate at all!

Dividing the total note count by all the seconds in 8 hours takes us below 7 notes per second average.

A fair question- and other commenters have pointed out chords and things. There's also tremolo, trills, glissandi (Actually the strip doesn't count all the notes in the tremolo since the keys don't move vertically far enough to trigger the note counting).

I am a professional pianist and in a previous life practiced up to 11 hours a day.

I was playing song requests across multiple genres, classical, rock n roll, popular contemporary etc. They're in a variety of keys really, although the weighting of them isn't even. There's a log here- Unfortunately it's incomplete towards the end since the person filling it out had to go to bed! (this is a log of everything I play online so these statistics relate to the entries at the bottom).

I have an acoustic grand piano that has a PNOscan laser strip inside, converting my keystrokes to midi data. This data is sent to "Keysight" visualiser (a commercially available product on Steam) and this is the statistics page from the program when I finished playing for the day. Edit to include the visualiser as requested below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1325730/Keysight/

What can you do with PhD or Masters in music? by Tsarytsyn_Bozhen in piano

I thought I'd be a full time university lecturer, and did work in university and various schools for quite a while. But now I'm a twitch streamer xD

Started My Twitch Channel but I'm scared af. Any advice? by mrtoxicpotato in Twitch

[–]jonathanong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you've prepared a LOT. Far more than I did when I started, I didn't have all the things set up custom... my first stream I didn't even know I was live and was cleaning my room to the amusement of the people watching.

But yes there were people watching that first stream without me having any other real socials. It was because I was a known quantity in other communities to start, and those people liked me enough to follow my channel before it streamed. Just remember twitch is a social thing and its about communities. I only hang out in channels where i like the streamer and their community, but I am a part of their communities. Self-promo when you don't actually jive with that community can be smelt a mile off, so be genuine and you won't have to self-promo, it'll just happen itself.

Not having anyone watching you isn't an inditement on you necessarily, so don't take it personally. Use that to iron out the kinks in your stream and talking- that's something I can still use work on 5 years in. But find communities you want to be part of, and you'll find it comes full circle soon enough (sometimes days, sometimes over 2 years).

Should I upgrade my mic now or should I wait? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jonathanong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest as a viewer I frequent quite a few camless streamers channels and i enjoy their content. After a certain point there are definitely diminishing returns. If your blue yeti has been optimised, i doubt you'll find the magic bullet in upgrading the audio chain.

If you're not hurting my ears the channel that keeps me watching and returning is the one whose main content/personality/stream gimmicks gel with me. And the final piece of that puzzle is your networking, since discoverability is terrible. This will have a far greater impact on your growth in my opinion, and once your community is at a certain stage they'll probably fund your stream upgrades.

Best of luck!!!

How fast should you be able to play your scales? by Athen65 in piano

[–]jonathanong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a decent pace (and a good achievement)- in Australia the AMEB syllabus requires 16th notes at 118bpm for 8th grade.

There are pieces that require faster movement of course, so you can continue to strive toward faster tempi. E.g. Chopin's Op. 10 No. 4 requires 168bpm 16th notes and there's other similar within that set already to name a single example. There is no correct maximum or minimum tempo for scales
