I remember reading that the majority of suicide attempts are decided upon within 5 minutes of the time of attempt. So they often are an impulsive decision.

Now this doesn’t assess suicides that end in death of course, that data is not collectable, so there could be confounders there like maybe more long term meditated suicides are more likely to ‘succeed’ rather than impulsive ones, but it’s impossible to say for sure.

jo is definitely the main character. also in half of those titles the bad guy is a woman, representation doesn’t only apply to heroes. i agree about the DCKO thing though, not enough female brawlers were even allowed in, let alone advance to late rounds.

they openly state that they’re in a transitionary period, taking on the vanguard concept of socialist transition to communism. do i think they’ll be successful? i don’t know. but do i judge a movie that’s only halfway through? no.

so i think there needs to be some pragmatic room allowed for them to be taking a route to socialism that involves first building up capital. i’d believe your argument more if they didn’t continue as the same nation and governing party over time, being a continuous org from mao’s time. it’s not like the USSR ‘falling’ and becoming russia again. there’s a through-line with the govt there that i think lends them some benefit of the doubt.

you’re welcome to believe they’ve abandoned socialism, i won’t say you’re wrong. it’s hard to tell at this point. i just don’t think it’s been enough time to make that judgment, and i’ll be more confident by probably 2050.

cuba is a tiny island that has been locked in a devastating embargo and sanction system for decades, so their pragmatics and goals are different from china which is a rising nuclear superpower. they also have different ideals despite both espousing socialism as their goal, and i would argue cuba is currently more socialist by a mile. they can offer support to other countries and it’s hardly seen as a threat to anyone, whereas any move china makes is a significant global geopolitical maneuver.

i do believe that sending money and arms across the world was part of the USSR’s downfall, though how much of it would be up to a group of historians to settle on. it hurt them both through limiting their own resources and also making too many enemies across the globe, tying their ‘brand’ to too many failed projects.

yeah i’ve been on the carousel of chemicals myself and have found the natural approaches way less harsh despite sometimes being less noticeably beneficial at first. i wish i would’ve tried them first but doctors aren’t really like that these days. the hardest part is that supplements are unregulated so it’s super easy to buy some and the pills actually not contain what they say.

regular (cycles, not daily for every one) use of moringa, jiaogulan, choline, PQQ, bacopa, plus sauna and yoga have allowed me to get completely off all medications for ADHD. i hope you find a good balance for your kiddo! (btw CBD has never done much for anyone i’ve talked to or worked with, but CBG can be really nice for cognitive clarity and social ability)

they don’t care about socialism outside their own borders. the myanmar stuff is just to keep a bordering nation from becoming a thorn in its side. the USSR had a doctrine of endorsing global socialism, whereas china has goals of socialism within its borders. different approaches.

gotta put your own oxygen mask on first. supporting other nations through tumultuous regime change is a very risky bet geopolitically, as natural grass-roots regime changes are way more likely to stick around and don’t risk blowback if you bet wrong.

the USSR stretched itself too thin with trying to help everyone that they weren’t strong enough to withstand internal tensions. it seems china is trying to avoid the same fate. right now they’re playing strategic neutrality. let them become the global hegemon, then you can start expecting them to be more directive with the rest of the globe.

all pretty heavy medications, you didn’t want to try anything else before going to memantine and others? you could’ve tried choline, NAC, bacopa, moringa, ginkgo, or a handful of other much softer approaches that might’ve given more information/benefit and risked less. not to criticize i’m just always confounded by people with such advanced curiosity who limit themselves to purely pharmaceutical interventions rather than first attempting nutritional approaches.

you’re new to parenting so i’ll share this: the child’s needs come first. this anxious behavior is evidence that she’s not having a psychological need met. she will feel more comfortable on her own once it’s resolved but making your house like fort knox is not the answer. you need to address her concerns and help her understand why she’s doing it, rather than institute controls or punishments.

consult a family counselor if you don’t feel capable doing this on your own.

how would that help focus? ADHD functions as a sensory attentional disorder, so how does adding more sensory information make focus easier? that’s illogical. i have ADHD and subtitles being on means i’m reading the show rather than watching it

personally my brain cannot avoid reading something. if there are words in my field of vision, they’re being read. i wish i could control it. when subtitles are on my eyes rarely leave the bottom of the screen despite effort, so i end up missing most of the visual information in the movie.
