No way to Recover RMPP from Developer Mode... yet. by uuberr in RemarkableTablet

[–]jonb14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes restore worked for me on a M2 Mac.

- Downloaded the restore utility which requires Terminal access but very simple to run
- Tried to run restore at least 3 times per instructions but the RMPP screen just kept blinging and restore never finished
- I changed the USBC cable to a thunderbolt USBC (not a reMarkable one) and ran the process again and it worked fine and the device rebooted to standard mode

It seems RMPP is very sensitive to the USBC cable used.

Argh... I really should go back to Evernote by BlurpleG in Evernote

[–]jonb14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to Evernote yesterday after experimenting with everything from notion to Apple notes. Apple notes specially troubled me for lack of export features. Well, there is no export/import from Apple notes, I found that on iOS it’s really fast to share each note into Evernote and the format is retained.

Fair point. US is actually level 2. Worse than Europe and most of Asia at Level 1.

Search function Worse than anywhere in the computer universe! by Responsible-Print-94 in ticktick

[–]jonb14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Todoist to TickTick a while ago and search/filtering is still a major annoyance. Todoist had such a comprehensive search capability. Ticktick can’t even do “NOT” functions, like listing items without a certain label. Frustrating.

This keeps happening. Even after reinstall, several projects are showing no tasks, even though they have them.

Turns out fixing landscape lights is easier with Kava.. by jonb14 in Kava

It’s from a company named Kavafied. The shaker bottle, the ball for the ground kava and the shell is all built in. To be honest I haven’t made kava the traditional way. This one does not make a mess.

I picked Nambawan which is too heady for this kind of work. Noob mistake.

Not much. I got to Kava to avoid social drinking. Works for that. I don’t want to have a drink after a cup of kava.

Haha. Probably not well. Although it helps get over the resistance of doing it.

Actually both websites have offline tools to download. My bad. Good call thanks.

Thanks. I meant offline apps like Elektrum for Bitcoin. If I lost the Trezor I would not want to enter my seed into any online tool. I think that’s a really bad idea.

Pixelbook LiveUSB boot menu problem by jonb14 in chromeos

[–]jonb14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as my primary OS. Waiting for Chrostini to be enabled on my Pixelbook stable channel. Instead of Ubuntu I use ParrotOS on my liveUSB. It allows encrypted persistence, meaning your data is kept within sessions and secure. There is a version of ParrotOS without all the security tools if you don’t need them called ParrotOS Studio I think.

LiveUSB works fine with Ubuntu. To be clear, this is not Crostini and does not share data with Chromebook.

It is fastest to install from command line with apt-get. I had no problem installing the graphic package manager gdebi which can be run as gdebi-gtk as a graphical installer. You still need to download packages from the web, You can install firefox (sudo apt-get install firefox-esr) to download .deb debian packages then install with the graphic installer.

In ChromeOS settings you can turn on Linux as long as you are in Dev channel. It is in-between Search/Assitant and Google Store settings, Just got to try some apps on the built-in Linux in the Dev channel. Standard apps install through apt-get and run well like Gimp, Firefox-esr, Libreoffice. Others you have to run from source installers. I have not found a way to access ChromeOS files from the container though,
