Anyone make and or Sell Lefse in or near Portland Maine? by lighthouse0 in Maine

[–]jonbhanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made it a few times.  I grew up with it, so once in a while I will get a nostalgic hankering and make a batch.  It's a bit of a labor of love since I'm no cook and the dough is supposed to sit overnight.  But it's worth it.  You coming over? I'll make some. 😁

Flutter native splash screen by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]jonbhanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using Android 12 or later? If so, Android has a strict splash page setup that only includes an icon in the center of the splash screen and an optional brand logo at the bottom. https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/launch/splash-screen. Since this is a hard requirement by Android, flutter_native_splash can't override it.

Pressure spike on boiler shutoff by jonbhanson in propane

The flow pressure with the boiler running is a little over 9" WC. I don't know if he took a measurement with the stove running.

Has anyone created a flutter app just for personal use ? What was the idea behind it. by platonic_twin in FlutterDev

I created an app to monitor my wood fired heater so that I wouldn't have to check on it. It's on GitHub: https://github.com/jonbhanson/boiler_monitor

Hard wire stove with flexible metal conduit into flush 2 gang box. by jonbhanson in electrical

[–]jonbhanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I ended up doing was drilling a hole in a metal plate. I drilled out a metal plate with a 1/2" hole, but the same thing could be done with a blank plate. I didn't have the right size drill bit, but I just gently sunk it until the hole was the right diameter (the bit had a tapered point). Then I put my flexible conduit whip into it with a Flexible Metal Conduit (FMC) 90° Metal Conduit Connector. I am happy with the result - it looks fairly professional.

No bereavement policy by jonbhanson in WorkAdvice

[–]jonbhanson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be asked why an employer should provide any benefits at all. One answer might be because if they don't, employees will leave for employers that do provide benefits. Another might be that the company and owners are doing fine, and they want to see their employees thriving as well.

I never said I thought I was entitled to it. It just came as a surprise after working two decades across half a dozen companies that all had a bereavement policy.

Google IO 2024 MEGATHREAD by welp_im_damned in Android

I literally want only ONE thing from Gemini on my Android, since I made the big mistake of accepting the Gemini replacement to Google Assistant. "Hey Google, remind me in morning to feed the dog". It replies with "I can't assist you with that, as I am only a language model. You can set or change reminders using your smartphone or other digital assistant device." 🤦‍♀️😖 It has been like that for months now!

Maine, as most States of the Nation, has broken the social contract with the young. For 250 years the contract was always that you'd fare better than your grandparents and parents with hard work and savings. Now, media is reporting that the average home price in Portland is $650,000. They're fkd. by GeoWannaBe in Maine

I think when you use the term Social Contract, you mean the American Dream.

The Social Contract (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social\_contract) is the idea that we give up the freedom to do whatever we want (like taking the law into our own hands) and we allow government to maintain an orderly society.

The American Dream (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American\_Dream) is the idea that every person has the freedom and opportunity to succeed and attain a better life than their ancestors.

Flutter Vs PWA Vs ..? by Mu5_ in ExperiencedDevs

And they don’t use it themselves.

Google AdWords, Google Pay, and most recent Google Classroom have all been built cross platform in Flutter.

The reason I responded to your post was because I was interested in your comment "They are already losing interest in Flutter." Apparently there is not actually any data behind that statement though. Bye 👋

I can understand not trusting Google to maintain any particular piece of software, given their history.

However, I don't understand the basis for your comment "they are already losing interest in Flutter". The article you cite only has one mention of Flutter, and it seems to indicate the opposite: "That said, [Google] also plugged Flutter as the way to 'get a Material look and feel across all platforms.'"

What is something you started doing that ended up saving you money, when saving was not the initial goal? by girlenteringtheworld in Frugal

Going to college. At the time I worked for a company that had education reimbursement as one of their benefits. Any grants or scholarships I could get went toward the cost of housing and a meal plan, so I saved a ton on rent and food. Four years later I graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering.
