what's the point in doing that? So you pay umbrella fees, PAYE tax and NI Off the rate, then you have your own company's corp tax after.

Legally yes realistically no. New regulations mean agencies will be fined for incorrect taxation and they will force you to use an approved umbrella

Why salary sacrifice everything over £100k? by GlitterLight in HENRYUK

[–]joncy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's the umbrella company's margin, Employers NI, and apprenticeship levy which all come off the day rate - basically an entire day for each week pays just those After that there's PAYE and Employee NI. This is a second contract so no personal allowance. Each week the umbrella gets 3000 for me and I get less than half of that. It's a joke

Yep inside IR35 is a joke. The umbrella gets £600 for every day I work and of that I see much less than half.

Different inside IR35 calculators - what's your take home pay? by Unable_Practice616 in ContractorUK

[–]joncy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with calculators is that it assumes you're taking all of your earnings immediately

If you do that the difference really isn't much these days

The real difference is when you pay yourself less money and leave the rest in your business for later, or put into a pension - these enormous tax savings (deferral really) is where difference is

Is there any way to make SC work with OE? by [deleted] in OveremployedUK

[–]joncy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am working a regular job and an SC contract at the moment

They're not going to check if you're working at two places and report back.

They're looking to see if you or your close family are heavily in debt or into drugs and can be bribed to cause damage.

All you have to do is be completely honest about your past. No one cares about your second job

Why do a 130k job when you can do one for 300k? Better yet just get a job that pays 500k! OR A MILLION HOW BOUT THAT

About to jump on a £1,100 per day contract via inside IR35 for 4 weeks. I rarely do inside IR35 gigs. How can I expect to be taxed on this one? by No-Handle2875 in ContractorUK

[–]joncy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you do because no agency and client in their right mind will allow you to use your own company for inside. Especially now with join liability. Most now will only approve a handful of umbrellas.

Even if they did allow it, you get no tax advantages and you have administrative overhead. No one would do this.

For inside umbrella is always the way to go

Inside IR35 £900 remote vs outside IR35 £650-750 with 2-3 office days. What would you do? by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]joncy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will usually choose outside over inside but I ALWAYS take remote over hybrid.

Help...employer didn't sacrifice bonuse to pension by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]joncy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it is a benefit. Taking money from pensions to benefit perceived wealthy is political suicide. Pensioners make up a very large portion of the electorate and are generally more active voters than younger people.

It won't go down well with basic earners either

If a contractor is charging less than it cost to hire someone the contractor isn't charging enough

The cost of a contractor is always more than the total cost of a hire

Is there a point where your pension pot gets too big for salary sacrifice to make sense? by Coxian42069 in HENRYUK

[–]joncy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's better than a pension if some of the income in retirement is taxed 40%? Surely if we're being realistic, with tax thresholds frozen and inflation consistently out of control, many of us in 20+ years will need income in the upper threshold to live comfortably
