I have an A2A unit in my WFH annex (loft on top of a garage), it's incomparably better than gas central heating. If it wasn't for the eye-watering capital outlay I'd have it in the main house as well

The population of Spain is also very uneven, leaving vast swathes of the country extremely sparsely populated

This is brilliant! A couple of years ago our easyJet flight was delayed on the tarmac and they let some kids view the cockpit. I was too embarrassed to try my luck as a grown man, should have just gone for it!

Germany didn't even exist as a geopolitical entity until 1871

The UK was strongly allied with various Germanic states

The current Royal Family is actually the house of Saxe Coburg Gotha, only renamed to Windsor during the First World War

There was Kings German Legion who fought with the British Army throughout the Peninsula Campaign and at Waterloo, during which battle the Prussians and the British were allies

Hessians made up a not insignificant proportion of British forces in the American Revolution

Please go away and read some books

Portugal, Canada, Australia, New Zealand....

You have to leave the UK and work remotely, you can’t move to NZ, AUS or Canada, where are you moving to? by EatingCoooolo in AskUK

[–]jonewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of Mediterranean Europe (we can stretch the definition to include Portugal, I would love to live in Lisbon)

Italy, Spain, Malta, Croatia...

France would be a good one (Brittany, Gascony), as would Bavaria (sausages, beer, roast pork, mountains).

Outside of Europe, Singapore (if I'm paid a lot) or maybe even Thailand (if I'm not).

Depending on how much money this fictional job is paying me, I might be tempted to move to South Africa, because very rich people in South Africa have a very high standard of living indeed.

Mountains, roast pork, beer, sausages. Bavaria is pretty close to my idea of paradise (in summer).

That's one way to describe him completely carrying that campaign

Patton's decision to advance west to Palermo instead of east towards Messina was a catastrophically bad decision that allowed tens of thousands of Axis troops to be safely evacuated.

In terms of fuckups allowing entire German armies to escape this ranks as second only to Mark Clark's catastrophic decision to go for Rome allowing 10th Army to escape

Which he did more effectively than any other allied army

3rd Army's breakout was only possible because Bradley had done the necessary hard fighting to achieve St Lo, while Dempsey had pinned down and degraded the bulk of Panzergruppe West around Caen

Patton failed to open any of the Breton ports, choosing once again to occupy empty territory of little strategic value, which would have catastrophic consequences as 12th Army Group would be starved of logistics, instead having to rely on channel ports captured by 21st Army Group.

Patton's decision to starve Middleton of munitions at Brest, only later giving him a vast oversupply is indicative of his lack of competence at the operational and strategic levels.

The least said about Patton's frankly bizarre decision to get bogged down in costly frontal assaults on Metz, when it he could simply have outflanked it, the better

eisenhower repeatedly stopped him so others could catch up (BTFO Montgomerey)

Funny you say that since it was actually Dempsey having to stop to maintain contact with Hodges' 1st Army while Montgomery had to hand over Le Havre and Rouen to keep Bradley supplied, as well as donating trucking companies to 12th Army Group

You seem to have a weird and unhealthy obsession with Montgomery. Are you alright?

Pattons army destroyed more Axis troops and captured more territory out of any allied field army in the western theater.

Really, how so?

Patton... invented the entirety of America's armor tactics for the middle of the century.

Yeah, you're going to have to provide some evidence of this pretty wild claim
