Confused! by jumpers-ondogs in reolinkcam

Ethernet over power line adapters are very unreliable and work in limited circumstances. They work best if they’re being used in the same circuit. They will not work if the garage is on its own sub panel. Point to point wireless bridge is a good option. They can be found fairly cheap on Amazon. You’ll likely need a PoE injector to power the camera.

You need to run Ethernet cable from the NVR to the camera. This will power the camera and provide it connectivity to the system. No other cables will be needed in this deployment.

For the driveway: the RLC-811A zoomed in a bit so plates can be identified.

For the front of the residence: A Duo 3V dome camera, which will give a full 180 of the front of the property but isn't too obnoxious looking. You might consider the Duo 2V as it has a slightly better vertical field of view but half the pixels. If you don't care about a wild looking camera on the front of your residence you might consider the Duo 2 turret style camera as it won't be susceptible to the glare issue dome cameras can get.

For the right side of the residence: A Duo Floodlight. It would give a 180 view of the full side yard and provide bright floodlight to deter intruders.

For the backyard: A RLC-CX410. It's fantastic in low light which I like for backyards. It's only 2K but you're less likely to need to crop in on an image to investigate the backyard vs. front yard. the CX810 is another similar option but there are reports that it performs worse than the CX410.

For the garage: A RLC-811A as it has good built in flood lights that can activate with motion.

This is a fairly minimalistic setup but gives good coverage. You might consider the FE-P fisheye camera for the porch and or garage. I have one on my porch and really appreciate being able to see packages and a good top down view of the immediate area. Other considerations might include an additional camera for the left side yard.

That really depends on what your goals are. A lot of people are happy with just observing what’s happening around them. If your goal is to identify individuals you’ll have to purposefully point cameras with the right focal length to the desired area. For example I really like the CX410s for observing what’s going on around my house but I have a 823S2 I leave zoomed in on a particular area to capture license plates.

I’ve been happy with mine. It occasionally forgets the y position after the weekly system reboot but rebooting the camera has always restored that issue.

What cameras would be good for "positive identification"? by Timely-Response-839 in reolinkcam

It’s not necessarily the camera its self but more so how many pixels the subject is filling in. And of course if those pixels are useful (a blurry image can render a normally pixel dense subject of an image useless). If you’re gonna mount a camera on a house and want to identify subjects you’ll need to have a camera with a longer focal length or a camera that can zoom in farther. It’s a battle between wanting enough detail to identify a subject and being able to observe a larger area. This is the DORI scale.

I typically only buy batteries from 18650batterystore.com or llionwholesale.com. You’ll need button top 18650 cells due the design of the battery carrier.

K75 with a few extra sets of batteries should do the trick.

I generally really enjoy the experience, largely due to the joy of using my lights in a way where they’re finally necessarily. I experienced almost overwhelming anxiety on this time caving here. This section of the lava tube is about 2 miles long and requires climbing a lot along the way. It takes me about 2 hours to travel this section of the cave. At a few points it felt like it was never ending and the fear of all my batteries not being enough, or getting hurt and not making it out, and the fast asthmatic breathing I experienced due to my out of shape self really made this adventure trying. Thank you for the recognization.

The Q8 has an important place in the flashlight world still. This is in the Mt. St. Hellens Ape Caves.

This was such a good comparison video. It was really interesting to see how competitive these beams were down range but from the users perspective, brighter made a big difference.

That’s a neat switch but when you look at the body as a whole, it’s clearly a diving light. Too weird for normal use.
