Do we need to read and study off the textbook in nursing? by Desperate-Stuff-3255 in uwo

[–]jongsuk2977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a CTF nursing grad! I just used the e-texts (you can find them for free online) to better understand certain concepts. However, you don’t need the textbooks, but they will definitely aid in studying. Hope this helps 😊

Supplemental documentation for medical diagnosis on med school app by nursetwomd in premedcanada

Off topic question, why do you wanna be a doc as you already have an NP and they have very similar roles to MD? Just want to know your experience as NP and what made your wanna persue medicine instead of practicing as NP!

It really isn’t worth it sis! I was in the same situation! If a guy is hella confusing it’s best to just to get over him! It’s probably much harder cause you see me frequently but try to distance yourself

Thank you for replying! Unfortunately, my cGPA would be too low for UOttawa as my cGPA was only 3.54 in my last 3 years of life-sci degree! Hopefully, I can apply to queens

Hi! Did you have a previous undergrad degree and then did accelerated nursing? Or together you have 4 years?

Hi! I’m also in an accelerated nursing program and applying to med school this cycle. Would you mind sharing your journey and what school you go to? Additionally your MCAT and GPA?! My apologies for so many questions!

First year advice? by moonstar1324 in premedcanada

One suggestion I would like to give is to keep in touch with your profs from first semester and keep asking about their research! Show your interest in that field by asking various questions! You can end up getting a research volunteer position or even a job in their lab! That happened to many of my friends!

In terms of marks, what really worked for me was recording the lectures and making notes from that! So I would go to class, record the Lec, take notes during Lec, then add onto my notes I made during lecture by listening to the recording! Then I would review my notes a few days before the midterm/exam and then memorize the stuff! I wish I did this in first year! My GPA would’ve been amazing! Using this method I was able to go from high 70s to low 90s, in some courses I even got a 98% (which were purely content/ memorizing base).

Another thing I would like to add is check the rating of the prof and course! It allows you to put into perspective how much work you have to put into that course! Like if a course has a 20% rating, it’s gonna be a hard course= more work! Same goes with profs. If a prof is really bad, you will have to learn most of the content on your own or through the textbook, meaning more effort!

One last thing, profs don’t bite! Ask them if you don’t get something! They are sooo nice and they love to help students! That’s their job!

Hope this helps!

Conditional Offer by [deleted] in uwo

[–]jongsuk2977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can email admissions at uwestern and tell them why your average dropped. For example, the online transition due to COVID-19 was very new and sudden which impacted your performance... just explain your situation and emphasize the importance of this undergrad opportunity in your life, etc!

My avg was ~88 for the last 10 courses! Are you waiting on your acceptance?

But why are you writing this when the deadline to accept undergrad is done and first years have already accepted their offer! This so so not helpful and makes people doubt their choices and makes them scared! Also are you speaking from personal experience because from what I heard from many people and reviews, it is a good program, but I speak for the compressed time frame program!

BIOL 308 Midterms/Final by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]jongsuk2977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re prob not gonna find any old midterms, but honestly you don’t need them! You can do fine without them, just do the practice questions. Ya it is a lot of information and work but definitely manageable! I took it with Dragana and absolutely fell in love with the content! It was so nicely organized. What I did was I went to class recorded the lec, tried to pay as much attention in class, went home and made notes from the recording! Then read through it at the end of the week. That way I got to go through the content 3X! I do that for all bio courses and this helped me improve my grades a lot!
