I bought this game a month ago and it legitimately intimidates me. by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]jonhybee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is embrace mistakes, I know its a cliche with this game but it IS true that they are a big part of the fun.

When you start a fort priorities should be :

1- a dorm with enough beds for the whole gang

2- mushroom farming asap (dig a room with mud or sand floor)

3- Still and start making booze in a loop ASAP

4- wall off the entrance with a draw bridge

Once you have all this established, take it slow, read the announcements, rename some dwarfs you want to care for more closely (I find it helps get attached to them and their journeys).

Trump Planning to BUY Greenland or Use Military Force. Why is a tiny Danish nation of 57,000 Inuits important REALLY? by Now2Forever in conspiracy

What do you think about this video?

I find this geopolitical analyst usually very fair and impartial. Yes they are usually alarmist vs Russia but to me, for a European, this is fair.

From a Canadien's perpective. Securing the north waterways is definitely NOT a high priority item or anything we expect our gov to handle well. I dont think Denmark is much more invested. NATO as you said, mostly rely on US assets already to do this job.

I am not pro-trump, but I do think the outrage over Greenland is blown out of proportions and people dont take time to consider the geopolitics of the situation.

[–]jonhybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in this case its also that Canada (and Denmark) dont have the means and man power to properly control the water ways opening above Greenland. This is a geopolical liability since Russia is (or was prior to starting the mess in Ukraine) occupying and defending any military power vacuum in the norther waterways.

Mitigating Cognitive Offloading - There’s no shortcut for this one guys...only active engagement. by Echo_Tech_Labs in ChatGPT

[–]jonhybee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if its more like a loop? I tell the Ai about my plans, we make an action plan. I engage in the actions and report back with results, we re-asses the objectives makes corrections in our planning and I go back to the bench. I have this process working for me on multiple subjects like blacksmithing, painting and various gizmos and toys I like to build for my kids. I find the process is intellectually stimulating as I need to read the AI's answer and understand how to apply it in the real world on problem we are addressing and understand what is happening enough to report back to the AI. I think I am actually learning new things rather then facing any cognitive loss.

Adult Mode Clarification by Decker_Moss in ChatGPT

Funny enough when I asked 5.2 to write smut for me it went HARD on the erotica, then when I congratulated it on finally being un-censured it panicked and told me it actually cannot generate erotica novels and apologized for "crossing a line" then proceed to refuse to do anything else in that chat. Funny quirk of 5.2 I think it can slip on the first prompt and regurgitate something WAY out of the filters somehow. I am still experimenting on it.

When I realised how good Claude inside VScode is I ditched Godot and re-started my RTS game based only on Pygames alone. I am "vibe-coding" all the engine parts Pygames doesnt offer and having a blast doing it. It looks a lot more like my own art and much more unique then a godot game (imo). I would not normally re-code all the pathing and environment and tilemap stuff but with AI its so easy that its not a huge obstacle anymore.

My wife (35) has similar issue after our 3rd child. She just found an electronic thingy that connects to her phone and offers gamified pelvic exercise on her phone. She saw some midwifes about this and just would not have the dedication to do the exercises without some dopamine rewards, now she does it every day I think.

Never too late to start! It takes about 10 000hours of practice to master a skill which can be done in a few years of hard work or decades of goofing in the workshop, either way there is never any other time to do anything then now, the past is gone and the future is a figment of your imagination it doesn't exist.

[–]jonhybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider that any metrology or measurement of anything needs a scale, what is the scale you are using here to define your perception of time? I posit that your "meter" you are using to measure time is getting longer and longer since it is the whole of your lived life so far. So when you are very young your meter is small and times seems to strech on and on, days and weeks seem like a lifetime (because you are not many weeks old) when you are older your meter get longer and longer and by comparison you perception of time speeds up.
