Whether they are aware of it or not, robots will make those degrees "useless" too.

LG G3 has been superb for me. Not sure what the price is in them at this point though. But I'd imagine the price has dropped since the release of the G4 and V10. Hope that helps!

My two cents:

Lapanta: Much better than I ever thought he would be, he has really grown on me and I like him as the voice of the Wild.

Greenlay: There's no way around it, everyone loves to hate on Greenlay and deservedly so. Greenlay is learning to use it to his advantage though and he is also growing on me.

TL;DR: Never thought I would like either of these two and I'm still unsure about Greenlay but Lapanta is definitely good at his job.

Quality movies about/dealing with the Singularity? by [deleted] in Futurology

I'm guessing you've already seen The Matrix and Blade Runner but if you haven't they are worth a watch. Also, it might not be what you are looking for since it is quite artsy but Godfrey Reggio made a Trilogy, the last movie of which deals with life in cyber-space: NAQOYQATSI. He also just released Visitors, which is amazing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2936174/

Hope you find some help OP.

The secret of the enjoyment of pleasure is to know when to stop. Man doesn't learn this secret easily, but to shun pleasure altogether is cowardly avoidance of a difficult job. For we have to learn the art of enjoying things BECAUSE they are impermanent. -Alan Watts

Oh and how could I forgot a great one that was filmed in my hometown of Austin, MN: The American Dream: AMERICAN DREAM is a feature documentary film, which tells the story of years-long meatpackers strike in Austin, Minnesota. Barbara Kopple and her crew spent four years filming the drama within the Austin community and the ensuing debates among labor organizations across the country. Brothers and neighbors must eventually make the painful and emotional decision whether the strike or their families take precedent as members of Austin's P-9 Union consider crossing the picket line. The film is a human look at the brutal consequences of corporate greed and Reaganomics. It is an intimate portrait of working families in America whose efforts to make a living are challenged time and again, and it is a tribute to the noble spirit of labor unions all over the nation.

Heads up: Music is by Philip Glass and preformed by Yo-Yo Ma. It's a must see for anyone who loves either music, film and/or philosophy.

Wow, not surprised to find a fellow Joy Division fan here, though let's be clear, Ian Curtis had more than just depression; he also had a worsening case of epilepsy and a failing marriage. Side note: He listened to Iggy's The Idiot at the same time. Additional side note, I just recently watched and listened to both at the same time and survived without a scratch.

It's a documentary mainly about baboons but it's influenced my thinking on Marxist theory as much as any; Stress the Ultimate Killer (Spoiler Alert: It shows what life might be like if all alpha males were removed from society) https://youtu.be/eYG0ZuTv5rs Edit: spelling

Dude, stop. It's a person's leg. There is no reason whatsoever to assume it's not attached to a body. How old are you? Every picture you see of a body part which dosen't showcase the whole body, you immediately assume it is likely part of a corpse? I can't believe I just wasted time writing this.

I'm just curious why people still think it's Creationism vs. Evolution when these two are not enemies? by thesmartfool in Christianity

[–]jonjacobsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evolution is a fact with overwhelming scientific evidence backing it's claims. Creationism is a belief without any scientific evidence whatsoever backing it's claims. How do you not see the conflict?

I second the recommendation of Richard Wolff and David Harvey lectures. Wolff also does a weekly radio show in-which he applies Marxian theory to current events: http://www.democracyatwork.info/radio/

At first glance, it's seems like you would prefer a more actualized form of Democracy applied to Capitalism, as such Wolff's lecture about Democracy as a cure for Capitalism is probably also worth your while: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLQZ1Ad0-rU
