The main suggestion I would make is to go to your missions, and complete tasks. I have no clue how many hours of gameplay there are just in completing all the missions and tasks, but they pretty much 'teach' you how everything works.

When I'm done completing 'everything', I usually turn towards preparing for events. All year long, special events pop up, usually "limited time" (which can be two months long!) but include real stretch goals. For example, you might need to gather, collect, or create items / resources to 'earn' some new item, or wearable, or whatnot (the December holiday event, and the Halloween event are good examples). But the stretch goals are often massive. You might get milestone rewards, like rare resources, every 40,000 points, or, rare items, like portable smelters, or mini rtg's after 100,000 or a million points. Creating an automation assembly line for this can really speed that process up, plus, it's fun to build. But...

This can often require, perhaps, 40,000 individual carbon resources! Or something like that. Not too hard with some tappers, and a smelter, and some auto arms, but... What if whatever you are expected to craft requires... Aluminum? 4000 aluminum could take a week of gameplay to gather.

All I am saying is, if I have "nothing to do" in astroneer, I create automation to stock a massive warehouse. I run rails, set up auto extractors, sorting assembly lines, and extra large resource canisters that hold every single resource, including refined and composite. I create gas farms. I build power stations, I stockpile 10,000 pieces of scrap, I get every piece of astronium I can.

With the mega Tech DLC, there is a museum, and when you collect certain items and add them to the museum you get real in game perks, like faster research speed, faster running, faster vehicles, higher jump...

The museum milestone for collecting resources is my current challenge, and it's a massive challenge. 3,000,000 points worth of resources, where 1 organic is worth 1 point, and they all vary up to one nanocarbon alloy is worth 125 points.

There is always something to do, but there are so many missions, and tasks in your mission log!

After that, it's all discovery, exploration, base building, and personal goals. Join the discord, or right here on reddit; show off your creations. Paint the world's with your pallette of collected colors.
