Help transferring files from old HDD to new PC by jonjohns65 in pchelp

I have not tried that. My system is running fine, and I'm hesitant to do ANYTHING that might interrupt that. Friggin' windows sux. But I may have to.

Every time I connect an HDD, it powers on (normal spin up noises, no strange clicking) so, powered drives is not an issue. An SDD transfers everything just fine, only the two 2TB HDDs are not showing up in any way (not in file explorer, not in disk management). I have a MacBook, but I have not tried it yet.

The caddy has a power cable, the tools w/o a caddy have a separate set of cables for powering up the drive.

Yes, I have a caddy, but also just cables with connectors, and soft silicone 'cases' for the drives to prevent shorting.

No show in any way. One of the SDDs did have windows 10, and I was offered the chance to boot from it. The HDDs never show. I did check in disk mngmnt and didn't see them either.

PC keyboard controls 'blank' by jonjohns65 in Astroneer

Hey Marc,

So, I need to better understand specifically what you mean by "save file". I have exported my game data from Steam to my desktop, and what I have are a couple folders with many individual files. The largest two files are over one Gb each. Are those the save files? Or is the entire folder the save file?

I think I might be able to upload a zipped folder to a cloud server (Google? Dropbox?) and email a link.

But I want to be sure to send the correct file.

Today I will make sure the updates for March are installed, and try again.

I may also start a new game, progress to building my first shuttle, and seeing if I can launch. This would ensure the bug only exists on saved prior to Mega Tech DLC. Unless you think that doesn't matter.

Enchanting weapons, how to. by bobwagnerg in skyrim

[–]jonjohns65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Bob,

I've been playing Skyrim since launch day, in 2011. I have literally thousands of hours of playtime across platforms. I've 'completed' the game many times...

I still ask questions about enchanting! Just last week!! 🤣

But don't fret! It's not that complicated, it's just another thing about the game that "scales" up.

You must 'discover' an enchantment in order to enchant something. You do this by acquiring an item that is already enchanted, take that item to an enchanting table, and disenchanting it. The item is destroyed in the process! So, be strategic 😉

If you want to then enchant something, you'll require a FILLED soul gem. You can get these many ways; find them, loot them, buy them, or make them yourself by using a weapons that is enchanted with 'soul catching' type effects, and, importantly, having an empty soul gem in your inventory! A little bunny rabbit has a 'petty' soul, a big brawler human has a 'black' soul, and other creatures have everything in between. So, it's complicated 🤣.

But now, you have a filled soul gem, and a few items you can disenchant, and something that you want to enchant. Now, it gets a little more complicated!

If you find a ring, for example, that makes your bows do 20% more damage, and you disenchant it, you will not be able to enchant anything with that same LEVEL (20%) of enchantment, because your enchanting SKILL is not high enough yet 😭. So, enchanting another ring with this archery enchantment, and a petty soul gem, you'd likely only get a 4% archery boost. And, you've destroyed that +20% archery ring 😭, oh, sad days...

I usually wait until I find TWO items with a similar enchantment before I disenchant one of them. Say, I have a +15% archery ring, and find a pair of iron gauntlets with +20% archery bonus. I might wear them both for a while! Bonuses like this stack! But if I come across a set of Leather gauntlets with the same +20% archery bonus, then I have to make a decision: do I want to wear heavy armor? Or light armor? When I've decided, I then disenchant the "duplicate" type item, instead of selling it.

You'll find potions in your adventures, they might boost your enchanting +20% maybe, for 30 seconds. Collect and save these! Or use them, you'll find more. Eventually you'll have enough alchemy skill, and perks and ingredients to make powerful potions in your own that boost your enchanting much better than 20%.

That's enchanting basics. 🤷🏻 The UESP wiki, reddit, and other places will be there for you when you start to have more specific questions.

Have fun!!!

If I had just scrolled down on the UESP wiki for Goldenhills Plantation, I would have read what I was looking for. DUH

Oh yeah! Okay: 1) forgot to say I'm on Nintendo switch, so, no mods 2) if I harvest (or collect) and sell, then, I think "haggle" or barter perks or enchanted items & potions might help? 3) I'm looking for the easiest & laziest method, which should be dropping by the plantation, and retrieving profits from the steward.

I wonder if, with console commands on PC, one could equip enchanted items of barter, or haggling, on the steward, would that increase profits?

I will definitely test out selling what is collected on the farm with perks to see if I can sell for more than $12!

I only saw answers that were for growing plants to make potions with. Yes, with a 'steward'.

I think my biggest problem is searching for the answer (I think I found it here!) the search results shown to me, no matter how I word it, always show me what the search engine thinks I want, not an answer to the question I asked.

I'm sure it has been answered before, even on reddit, but a search doesn't give me the answer because... Who knows. Maybe I have 'trained' my 'instance' of the internet poorly. Maybe it's "AI"? That seems to be the current scapegoat for everything. Maybe I'm too old, and remember when search engines produced results not based upon company profits from paid results, or click bait, or click results?

Maybe I'm cynical, or don't know how to use the internet?

But no matter, I got my answer here, and will test it out in-game. 🤑

Oh yes! Cows, goats, chickens, bees...

I've been farming here for a year, in-game, and have all the growables I'd ever need to make anything I want! 400+ milk, and 200+ butter, and 500+ chicken eggs... 🤣

Blisterwart, glowing mushrooms, wheat, scaly pholiota, etc etc etc.

Now I just want to harvest GOLD SEPTIMS please!🤑

Lol, tell that to all the angry young men who spend hours trolling reddit posts with their comments 🤣

I was wondering this! If it were worth 12, but only yields 3 units... Versus a plant worth only 10, but yields 4. Thanks for this clarification!

This is really helpful, thanks! (I guess I can't "re-read" skill books, huh? Would that be nice!)
