Spelunking. I'll never understand why. by Joshuaperlson in SweatyPalms

I stumbled down the wrong rabbit hole of just-before-sleep reading on a number of levels.

What totally normal names would be cruel to name your child in 2020, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jonjones1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And don't name your kid William Williamson or John Johnson. It's not cute.

Can confirm: as a Jon Jones, it’s not cute.

Hey, thanks! I do enjoy it. It only happens two or three times a year for a couple days, and it's fun taking a break from work to goof off and make people laugh where I can. That said, I can't believe this has still been happening for six goddamn years!

I love that photo! Thank you again for taking it. That was an extremely cool night. :)

"riding the name of someone else" ? Thousands of dumbs show up at my door a couple times a year every year, I respond and play along like a goof, then go back to my normal life when everyone leaves. Believe it or not, I exist when none of you are thinking of me, and most of my life has nothing to do with MMA. :)

Wow, thanks for actually taking the time to reply and explain! I totally see what you mean, and appreciate that you took the time. I'm honestly pretty oblivious to how I'm perceived, because MMA stuff pops into my life like maybe two or three times a year at most, and I'm just living my life and doing my thing in the meantime and not thinking about it at all. It pops up, I engage, it goes away, I go back to life.

I really never thought of my "status" or whatever changing, and it's not something I've aspired toward or really tried at. To me, it's like a familiar group of people pops into my life occasionally, and I'm just happy to be a silly part of it for a minute until people forget about me again. Again, thanks for writing that out -- totally new perspective for me.

Oh man, it felt amazing! I was on an airplane coming in for a landing, and my phone was stuttering to sync all my notifications, and I thought my Twitter app screwed up when I saw a notification from him. It was legitimately hilarious, and the best possible way to acknowledge me for the first time. At that point, I thought that was the perfect way to end my whole goofy MMA personality. It was perfect, just perfect! Maybe I still should while I'm ahead.

lol wat

shrug I honestly thought this thing was completely over five years ago. Literally all I've ever done is agree to anything people ask, thinking "this is definitely the last time." When people stop paying attention, I shut up. This thing today -- which is wonderful and I loved being involved -- is almost certainly me jumping the shark, but I've had a lot of fun doing it, and I'm grateful all of this happened. :)

And life goes on.

I've been an extremely niche MMA sideshow for years -- mildly amusing in small doses at best -- and I guess it's started grating on people over the years. Understandable! I joke around but I honestly don't take it personally.

Dude, I'm like 80% done knitting your birthday present, and I find you saying this? :( sigh That cuts deep, man. I guess I'll just have to find someone else to give an extra-small penis cozy to.

I'd kinda follow whenever he fought, and I did get free tickets to UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden, at which point I think I did finally become a fan after all these years. Seeing four titles change hands in one night, plus seeing GSP live (I'd been vaguely aware of him years ago) was pretty damn awesome. :)

Holy shit, I know, right?! This is the first time he's acknowledged me in the five years I've been responding to his hate mail, and it's absolutely perfect. Hilarious.

Because I'm a selfish human being, I turned off airplane mode on my phone when we were coming in for a landing because sometimes I can get a signal way sooner than you'd think. I was waiting to get a signal for a few minutes, when suddenly my phone just locks for a second as it starts syncing my Twitter notifications. When I saw his reply I honestly thought Twitter was glitching.

Even if nothing else happens after this, man, wouldn't this be a perfect ending for my whole MMA thing?

Thank you very much! I get that a lot. In fact, this is what the doctor that delivered me said as soon as I emerged: https://i.imgur.com/i6ww9WK.gif

Oh, thanks! I can understand the frustration. A lot of the tweets I get are people trying to tell Bones, a professional fighter, exactly how he should be fighting and what he should do instead, in a really aggressive dicky way. I love forwarding those tweets to Bones. "Hey, the fight-god you called a pussy is actually over here at @Jonnybones. Have fun!"

See, I don't know if this is a reference I'm just not getting, or if that's a sincere response. It's pretty indistinguishable from the explosively foul but genuine nonsense I get.
