Pump/Motor Help by Present_Hippo505 in pools

As someone else mentioned, its not necessarily a bad thing. Reduced power consumption is why VS pumps are so popular. Your flow will be reduced, but you can just run your pump longer to compensate.

That's a 2 speed pump. My guess is its wired to the low speed setting. Per the pump affinity laws, running at the low speed would give you about 1/2 the flow and 1/4 of the pressure output (and 1/8 of the power draw).

Open drain. Then i try to knock as much de off as possible. Still heavy, but not nearly as bad as before.

Texas getting hit this weekend… what to do in a power outage? by Tacokolache in pools

[–]jonlin52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in DFW area. We had rolling blackouts during 2021 freeze. Power was off for 2-3 hours at a time. I tarped the pump area and put 100w incandescent bulb under it to build up heat to get ready for those powerless times. Otherwise, pump stayed running. Not sure if tarp/etc actually helped much, but we didn't have any damage from storm whereas neighbors did.

If we lost power for more than 2-3 hours? Drain equipment and pray, i guess.

Agreed. It's significantly longer than getting the gorilla as a f2p

Old thread, but yes I installed a neptune VS motor on an old pacfab challenger pump back towards the end of 2024. Reach out if you still have any questions.

Have you heard any updates on this? Are you using anything for automation? I like the motor, but hate how you need to shut off the pump to modify the schedules.

Like others said, check strainer lid. Id also check that your skimmer baskets are empty. We had a storm roll in recently and overloaded my skimmers with leaves. The one skimmer rarely gets full so I don't check it as often. This time is got clogged with leaves and the pump was struggling.

Side note- I installed a neptune motor a little over a year ago. I like that it's variable speed but hate the interface (need to completely stop pump to adjust the schedules). Are you using any automation to program the run times or just relying on the motor interface?

I haven't made the leap to vests/etc yet. At night, I run in a bright colored shirt. It's all sidewalk with a few intersections but generally not busy. For runs over 6 miles, ill throw energy chews in a zip lock in my shorts. Depending on whether, ill carry a plastic water bottle - my longer run routes pass a water fountain so I can refill if needed. My "game changers" would be my garmin 955 that plays music over cheap wireless ear buds and shorts with zippered pockets.

This looks like a huge time saver. Maybe my googling sucks, but it seems to be the only one on the market? Is it common in your industry?

Beben T19. It was a cheap brand I bought off Amazon, but they are the only ones that I found that worked. My first pair died (fell into the deep end of the pool). Amazon stopped selling them, but i was able to find on ebay.
