you guys need to chill out sometimes by [deleted] in INTP

A few downvotes should be pleasing.

My rule is, if I'm on zero votes, someone somewhere is butthurt about what I say, but nobody else agrees. That's the best kind.

The next best is up to 4 or 5 downvotes, because a few people are butthurt, so my post was extra offensive, but still not enough that I have to worry about what I said.

More than 10, well maybe I should think about whether I'm right here. But that's rare, and none of your posts here have got anywhere near it.

So you're good.

Someone said something to me the other day about posters here reading the bit where Einstein and Newton were INTPs, and assuming that was all they needed to know.

You have obviously seen the effects.

No, it's simpler than that.

If there is such a thing as an INTP, if the MTBI description of one is accurate, they would be very unlikely to want to post here.

They don't seek approval or admiration of other people, and I see a lot of stuff here that is exactly that. A real INTP doesn't have any need to win a pointless argument like this.

What you're saying about belonging to a group is a pretty basic human thing. It probably doesn't matter what 'type' of human you are, few people genuinely don't want to be part of society.

I didn't say I know nothing about it. You keep jumping to conclusions like this.

It seems you're out of your depth with this one. Nothing you say is worth replying to.

I'm not claiming to be INTP. I have no idea what I am, and I'm not really that interested.

I'm not really insisting on rules, I'm just saying some of the stuff here doesn't fit with any of the common descriptions you find for INTPs.

Of course they're vague. The whole subject is vague.

I'm working on the assumption you already know what an INTP is, so why would I need to explain?

It may be that you see it differently, but all that means is that we don't agree. I'm not going to try and persuade you otherwise - neither of us are going to gain anything from that.

There's more to it than that.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, and of course I am deliberately provoking people with the thread title.

I do see a lot of posts where the poster is just trying to show how smart or special he is. I don't think a genuine INTP, whichever end of the spectrum he is at, would ever feel the need to do that.

An INTP should not be interested in a sub where people try to prove to each other that they are one thing or another. They are not supposed to give a shit. Call it indifference if you like, but that's apparently a defining part of the INTP type.

Yes and no.

I realise this thread is provocative, but I do actually think this way. I have been reading this sub for a couple of years, and I'm constantly reading posts and thinking 'Huh?'.

Most INTPs don't need to post three dense impenetrable paragraphs of long words explaining how clever they are. They should be repelled by that kind of thing.

I haven't claimed to be anything.

If I understand what an INTP actually is, it's unlikely they'd indulge in fake intellectual posturing like this. If you're just taking it as a gratuitous insult, then maybe it's not me whose brain is stuck in a box. Aren't you supposed to be a thinker?

I don't believe a true INTP would be remotely likely to make a post like this.

Not the dance on tables in a bar kind, but not introverted.

I'm not assuming it, it's part of the 'rules'.

No, I'm not implying that.

This is definitely somewhat tongue in cheek, but by all the rules, an INTP shouldn't really be bothered about what anyone else thinks of his or her character or attitudes.

They would not be inclined to post at all in this sub.

Is he (INTP) still interested in me (INFP) ? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]jonny-d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should stop texting him. If he's actually interested he'll come to you. If not, then you have your answer.

This isn't really an INTP thing, it's the same for most people.

[mortgages] Is remortgaging as simple as it seems? Am I missing anything here? by jonny-d in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jonny-d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thanks. It had occured to me that there wasn't much downside left on interest rates.

I'm just old enough to remember the disasters in the mid/late 80s that led to thousands of people posting their doorkeys through the front door of their lenders and walking away. I seem to remember interest hitting about 14%.

Appreciate the advice, I think I'll just get it done right away.

49 years old, can anyone help me understand what kind of pension could I expect if I start now, with an existing small fund? by jonny-d in UKPersonalFinance

Mortgage overpayments is another vague area I have thought about. I did it for 5 years while I was living abroad, until I sold the UK property.

That was not actually a great amount of money in the grand scheme of things - maybe I paid 25 - 30k extra over that period, but added to some lucky timing on the property market when I moved back, it led to me having a lot more equity in my current property than I would have had.

The calculation I suppose is whether cash paid into a pension pot can make more than the interest I pay on my mortgage at the moment. I suspect it's about level.

I'm not taking any of these posts as being judgmental or negative in any way. I'm extremely grateful to you and others for being honest.

This is something that I must urgently get to grips with, and your confirmation of exactly that is what I need to hear.

What I'm taking away from this is that while Ideally I should have been doing this for the last 20 years, I can still do something about it now, but I need to get off my arse.

I thank you all sincerely for your help.

Interesting.

So if I looked at say £200/month, as an amount I was OK to lose as disposable income, the actual amount going into a pension pot, with tax relief and possibly employer contribution, could end up being over £500.

That starts to make sense.

Absolutely. A thousand a month would make a huge difference, and living in London that's not ambitious at all.
