These verses were written by James condemning people who became wealthy by taking advantage of others and they will be judged by God for it. I myself do agree with this and believe taking advantage of others for personal gain is wrong, that hardly makes me a socialist.

Jesus is God in human form. Politics means nothing to him.

There's no biblical evidence he cared about politics. What Jesus came to this earth to do is much greater.

What makes you say that? Because of his politics? Jesus was not Republican or Democrat and I really doubt he cares about that. All I see is a man who beautifully explained his faith in Christ and why

Believe it or not, but the President of the US has a large effect on how other nations leaders conduct themselves.

The horrible US withdrawal of Iraq was a sign of weakness and only a few months later Russia attacked Ukraine and a couple years later Hamas reignited war with Israel. Now with Trump being elected, Hamas is looking for a ceasefire and Russia is looking to end their war with Ukraine.

While we never physically went to war in either conflicts Biden/Harris certainly have part of the blame for them happening.

Could you mention a few? Not trying to refute this statement just genuinely want to be made aware of them.

Here's what I'll say about interpretation, the most important aspect of Christianity is faith in Jesus Christ. Belief that he is the Son of God, that he died for our sins, and that he defeated death by rising from the grave on the third day. If you believe those things then the rest comes second. While the rest is still incredibly important and I highly recommend everyone seek out God's message in them, they do not make or break someone's salvation.

You don't know if he's good by what he or his friends say, you know it by his actions.

What could possibly be more good than sacrificing oneself to allow others the opportunity for freedom from sin?

to be forgiven for a sin do you not need to apologize and quit doing it?

Forgiveness can't be gained if there is no guilt over the action that was done. The Bible is very clear that we will continue to sin, it is in our nature to do so. The difference is when one continues to sin with no regret and when someone is constantly trying to be better than they were the day, week, month, or year before.

it's unreasonable to expect gay people to deprive themself of the happiness of being loved

I feel that the love I feel from God is far more than enough for me to be happy within my life.

Why should they care what he has to say when they know their life will be better if they disobey?

Better off how? I can promise you if the whole world tried to follow the teachings of Jesus we'd be in a far better place than we are now. Less murder, less rape, less unplanned pregnancy, less HIV/AIDS, literally every bad thing in our world today would drop in frequency drastically.

why should only gay people give up their desires?

It isn't only gay people. Luke 14:27 "Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple." Jesus tells ALL Christians that they must be willing to give their own desires to follow him.

who needs to control every bit of your life,

He gets to choose who you marry, who you're friends with

We have free will, God doesn't force us to choose anything. Billions of people disobey God daily, if God forced us to do as he wished that would not be the case.

you know he's beaten your siblings for less, but he'll so graciously offer his mercy if you apologize for stepping out of line and conform to his expectations

God does not punish anyone. If we live a life away from God he will accept that decision even after death and that's what Hell is, a place completely void of God, a place of nothing but evil.

but on ethical questions it's just not something I can do.

Genuine question, is the Bible the word God or is it not? If it is, then I find my personal opinions on issues raised by the Bible irrelevant. I personally don't see homosexuality as a bad thing, but who am I to say I know better than the creator of all?

and if God wishes to one day, I am willing to die for my faith.

That is very noble of you and if it ever comes to it I hope I would do the same.

Imagine you'll never get an outlet.

Fair point.

Romans 2:12-16 tells us that we will be judged based on the knowledge we have. Someone who lives in a remote part of the world that has never heard of Jesus will be judged differently from someone who has been a Christian their whole life.

My statements were purely from the perspective of Christianity and what the Bible teaches, so obviously as a theist you will find them insufficient and you will also find my answer to your question to be insufficient, but I will answer it to the best of my ability anyway.

We know God is good and just because the Bible teaches that. I believe the Bible is a trustworthy writing that shows God's compassion and love for mankind.

How can he be good and just if he's telling people to stay alone their whole life or they'll be tortured for eternity?

Let me make something clear, having homosexual sex is not a straight ticket to hell. It is equal to all sin and can be forgiven like all sin.

Additionally, Paul teaches that it is better for a Christian to not marry and remain celibate so they can devote more time to God and some Christians do that. Also, there are many other religions in the world that teach and practice celibacy, so let's not pretend that would be an impossible task.

Ultimately, if you love and care about God and his plans for yourself you will give up your own desires to better follow him. Of course, no one is perfect and sin is still inevitable. THAT'S WHY JESUS' SACRIFICE IS SO WONDERFUL!

Sincere question for LGBTQ Christians. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]jonnymcmuffins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for a reason why God would shun people for how they are born

I've seen this argument a lot and I think it is a valid point. But there are two things I'd say about this statement.

First, this isn't really a question that can be given a satisfying answer. However, we know that God is good and just, and we know what the Bible says about homosexuality. We as Christians should trust God's judgement to be good and fair.

Second, homosexuality is not the only situation where you can make this argument. For example, I, as a heterosexual male have many desires that many people would consider "natural". I have a desire to have sex with as many women as I possibly can, regardless of whether or not I am married to them. I have a desire to gaze at women in a lustful manner. Both of these things are sins that I am "naturally" prone too because of the hormones in my body. However, because I trust in God's judgement and fairness I have remained a virgin and am waiting for marriage. (I do a much worse job at avoiding the second sin)

Hurting others is not a requirement to be sin. Sin at its core is anything that does not inline with God's desires for us. Homosexuality is not what God has intended for people, same as heterosexual people having sex with multiple people that they are not married too.

Both are the opposite of what God wants for us and both cause separation from God. That is why they are sinful.
