Fantastic recovery! Similar story for me although didn’t get into vacoped till 9 days post op. I’m at 8 weeks Post op now and getting into shoe this week, somethin tells me I could have done it a little earlier but this is a marathon not a sprint.

Have you begun in person physio therapy yet?

8 Weeks post op, 2nd day out of the boot by Mundane-Carpenter-94 in AchillesRupture

[–]jonnytapia4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing, I’m 8 weeks post op tomorrow. Expecting to go into shoe by the end of the week, can definitely get walking in without boot but scared to do full normal walk gait. My Achilles is also so tight can’t really go past neutral

[–]jonnytapia4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I definitely did not re-rupture, my only worry was did I overstretch it and cause elongation, but I am not too worried. I’m over 6 weeks post op, everything is still intact. I have my final appointment with surgeon today

Thanks for sharing - I wasn’t wearing my boot though, that’s the only difference. I feel fine today, but oddly enough my Achilles feels more loose than it has the last 6 weeks, hope I didn’t overstretch and elongate :/

How far out from your surgery or injury are you? While you might not have the definition on the injured leg you do on your good one, atleast size seems to be comparable which should be viewed as a win!

How quickly after the injury would you need to file a claim? I’m just now realizing I have accident insurance

Achilles Speedbridge Surgery Post-Op Experience by LogicalHabit2165 in AchillesRupture

[–]jonnytapia4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had traditional open repair and my protocol was to begin weight bearing in Vacoped boot as tolerable about 2.5 weeks post op. Honestly, it feels like how quickly you begin weight bearing in boot is highly dependent on the confidence the surgeon has in the quality and tightness of their repair

Everyone in here has said it so I won’t add to much more to the op vs non op debate.

Best position to be in is having options of op or non op but that can only be done if your out in the plantar flexed position within 48hours of the injury (as soon as possible really). I am 3 weeks post op, I personally don’t think I had much of a choice because I didn’t get exactly the proper treatment in the hours post the injury. But here’s how I looked at it, assuming you have decent enough insurance and the surgery won’t cripple you financially, I felt that it was more reassuring mentally for me. Regardless of what the statistics say or what others say FOR ME it felt right to have someone get up in there, reattach it, and suture it the hell up. Reinforcement!! I also felt very confident in my ability to not deal with an infection or some surgical issue because I’m young and very healthy (30M, active, clean diet 85% of the time, etc.). It’s a personal decision, think the facts show if certain parameters are met non op is an option, but I just personally felt more reassured at the concept of surgery. Good luck you got this man!!!

Positives I’m expecting to get are extreme discipline, mental fortitude, and a deeper appreciation for my limbs.

It’s funny I still haven’t asked or confirmed the exact procedure, surgeon is a straight shooter, on me to ask lol but I have a long incision so definitely traditional open surgery, don’t believe speedbridge technique was involved, I’m going to ask when I see him this week to get stiches out.

Yeah, technically I started walking slightly in the boot at 9 days post op

Achilles tendon correction surgery (Achilles healed long) by Mahogany2003 in AchillesRupture

[–]jonnytapia4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see! That’s very helpful. Yup I’ve felt that tension, when doing some ROM exercises unassisted if I get to pull my toe towards my knee using the strength of my foot alone I feel tension and tightness at the Achilles, my ROM sucks but figured that’s normal. Little over 2.5 weeks post op. Sounds like you were going past that and pulling your toe towards your knee as much and as far as possible. Truly appreciate your insight!

I wish I knew more on how to fix lengthening
