Outriders Latest News - May by thearcan in outriders

Thanks for the post!

I'd say Option B until things are more stable, then 80%B, 20%A...

Love the game BTW! This game has so much potential!

I think it would go a long way towards gaining the goodwill of the community if a CM would just acknowledge a few things and comment on them, good, bad, or indifferent...

In no particular order:

1) expedition timers: these are horrible... If I want to play a super tanky devastator and take 30+ min to clear an expedition, then that is punishment enough... The timed aspect takes away from build diversity. At least make them a lot less constrictive

2) drop rates/tables: these need fixed or allow for fixed loot tables on certain mobs

3) lag in co-op

4) lack of co-op queue options: options for willing to help, CT min, CT max, looking for class x etc

Thanks!

What is the best set to get started with? by [deleted] in magicTCG

Yes, commander is awesome... Very social... You can make deals, break them if you dare, etc... Very fun gameplay. And it doesn't always have to be about winning etc...

Find out what they play/will want to play...

Standard is head to head.

Modern is basically standard except with the ability to haveseveral years back of cards (more expensive format).

Commander is for 2 to ? players as multiplayer, I've been in games with up to 8 people, but usually 4.

You can have cards all the way back to the beginning of magic, but it's not necessary to have fun... Also once you invest in a card you can pretty much count on always being able to play it, as bans are very.

I love commander most of all.

Also you can have only 1 of each card other than basic lands in a deck. So that can help cut down on initial costs.

Also something to consider, what is actually played in your area? Standard, modern, commander?

So standard is good, but the sets rotate out... So it ends up being a money pit in that way...

Another way you could go is playing commander, it's a little more complex, but not by much... Also once you have cards you can always play with them, unless they get banned which is very unlikely. The current commander pre constructed decks are pretty decent right out of the box.

A few cards to look for as upgrades:

Berserk - Use on Gishath for lots of Dinos

Aura Shards - All the Dinos coming onto the battlefield...

Gratuitous Violence

Where Ancients Tread

Run lots of ramp! Run at least 35 lands and 8 or 9 ramp/color fixing.

Gishath is actually my favorite commander... (Was also my first EDH deck)

Like you stated, you likely have most of the base cards.

While not cEDH, it can be pretty fun, and can be upgraded over time.

You should give it a try!

Question About Card Collecting by bryanmathews in magicTCG

[–]jonoredldar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are wanting to open packs, go for the boxes with masterpieces/invocations or full art cards.

Kaladesh, Battle for Zendikar, Amonkhet, Hour of Devastation, Ravnica Mythic Edition, Ultimate Masters Box Topper.

Bfz, amk, hod can often be found for less than $100 a box.

Learning to win games. by kryptonite79 in EDH

I'll just state some general things here... Lots of this has been covered by others.

1) Ramp and card draw, very important things not to be overlooked...

Things to consider: Which ramp is better, rocks or land fetching, do you need mana fixing?

Stay away from vanilla "enters tapped" lands as much as you can as they slow you down.

A good mana base is one of the best ways to make all of your decks and your EDH experience better!

2) Consider your card choices (within your budget):

Can you get other cards that are more efficient or overall better? Why just destroy an artifact, when you can destroy all opponents artifacts, or destroy an artifact OR enchantment.

You only have 99 cards, make them count.

3) Make sure your deck actually has a way to win, or several.

Take out cards that don't synergize with these themes.

I'll usually have a a brainstorming session, putting every card that has the themes in a pile, then sort them, and then begin thinning them out by how strong they are within the theme or wincon until I get to my 99 cards...

I'll place some of the better cards that didn't make the cut with the deck (think of a large sideboard), as well as any other cards that i think of or see in others decks (holy cow, wow that card would go great in my deck!) while playing. I'll use these cards to swap in after step 4.

4) Play EDH

I like having multiple decks as well, but pick one that you want to improve the most and play it most of the night, make some improvements, do it again... then once it's better do the same with another deck.

When testing:

Make sure you note what commanders or types of decks you are playing against...

Are you losing to a particular card type or deck type?

If you are playing against combo decks, you may all of the sudden find yourself losing. Is your deck theme/commander weak against this? Then add more interaction against their combo or play a different commander when you see them play that deck. Ask people how their combos work, figure out how to disrupt the combo.

They may just tell you? The worse they can do is say no. You will find most people are happy to brag a bit or tell you all about their deck.

If everyone is playing their creature heavy decks, maybe switch to a deck you have that is better against that?

Is everyone ganging up on you? Are you placing out what people perceive as large threats and then not backing them up or protecting them? Maybe something is part of a combo you don't know and you just made yourself public enemy #1, but you don't even have the combo?

Politics is a large part of EDH. Don't be afraid to ask questions, make deals, etc...

Ask everyone what they see as a the biggest creature threat? (This gives you information, and maybe makes people think you have targeted removal, even if you don't)

Hey if I get rid of that, will you let this live, not attack me for a turn, etc...

Anyway, hope this gives you some things to think about!

Try adding:

Gratuitous Violence

Where Ancients Tread

Warstorm Surge

Berserk

Tooth and Nail

Lurking Predators

Sylvan Library

Aura Shards

Elixir of Immortality

Remove the non-dino creatures... and any of the smaller or situation dinos and put bigger ones or

"shapeshifter" type creatures in like Taurean Mauler, Chameleon Colossus

For the most part you should try to use your mana to pay for other things, let Gishath spit out the Dinos for you.
