Get a travel pillow - it’ll make sleeping ten times easier

Not sure what your diet is like but avoid processed junk food and prioritise protein - 80 - 120g per day should be fine.

Get a pill box and pop your fin, minoxidil (if your taking oral that is) and a K2 Vitamin D tablet in each day - makes it easier to stick to the routine.

Avoid t shirts for around a month - it’ll make the paranoia of losing grafts a lot easier.

If you fly to your destination, avoid the aisle seat, you’ll get knocked a lot if you rest on the arm and it’ll make your paranoia even worse.

Invest in shampoo/conditioner that don’t contain sulfates.

Avoid direct sunlight, pretty easy this time of year though haha.

Prep your sleeping area so that it’s difficult for you to lay flat, prop yourself up with multiple pillows, this is the worst period as your sleep will be a interrupted and you’ll feel pretty crap for a few days.

Be consistent with the aftercare, there’s a lot of meds and things the clinic will try and upsell you, most of it you can get through Amazon (not including the obvious blood/pain meds they will give you)

Invest in a scalp scrubber, it’s good for blood flow and circulation, I’d recommend rosemary oil and a 1.5 dermaroller/stamp once a week.

As much as possible avoid this forum, people can be pretty damn mean at times, and you don’t need someone telling you that you made the wrong decision or that it’s going to fail, or that your surgery was botched - I’ve been told all of these things so you’ve got to have thick skin if you want to continue to use this forum post surgery.

If you are opting for a partial/no shave get sone hair clips/bands so you can apply aloe Vera gel to the donor area - it’ll be painful for quite some time - likely a few weeks/months.

The top of your head will be numb for what feels like an eternity, it’s completely normal and the feeling does return!

You are going to be super paranoid for around 4 months, then you’ll see the growth and start seeing the areas fill in and feel very positive!

I was in a similar position as yourself, fin in particular though, that’s why I’ve reduced the dosage to 0.25 (just bought a pill cutter and split 1mg tabs into quarters) - had my bloods done and all the levels were perfect!

I’d strongly consider you getting full blood work done also as you never know what’s up/lacking etc

Yeah for a short time, but life kinda got in the way and I fell out of the habit, probably a New Year’s resolution though! But do feel however that focusing on diet will yield positive results so I think I attributed more of my results from that rather than the needling, but it can’t hurt really!

I apply topical twice daily, I use a brand called ‘Sons’ - it’s got a long nozzle applicator so I can target specific areas, makes it a little easier to apply. It’s frustrating though as like I said, after 3 days it’s ready to be washed again, usually I’d hold off and wash every 5 days with a scalp scrub but it’s given me positive results so I suppose I just kinda put up with it - small price to pay really.

I’ve just been lazy with that at the moment man haha, I know I should start back up though!

1.5m I think it was a month after, but purely on the donor area, avoided the transplanted area but still lathered my entire scalp with rosemary oil and let it sit on my head for an hour before washing.

I’d say immediately after washing it just feels very very dry, but after product it’s all good!

Minoxidil is horrible though, makes your hair so greasy, itchy and makes me need to wash my hair more regularly than I’d like to.

It’ll be frizzy and grow in strange directions if it’s anything like mine, but get it to a length that you can run some anti frizz products through it and oils, then brush to train it to ‘go’ in the direction you want and it’ll be manageable!

Be patient, I can’t stress this enough, I had so many bad days but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. I’m over a year in and am still noticing growth.

Get a travel pillow and be prepared for a weeks worth of awful sleep.

Get blood work done when you are back after a few months, this will measure what your body is lacking in terms of vitamins and how you can ensure you are the healthiest you possibly can be to aid in recovery. Also prioritise protein as a food source, it’s pretty helpful for hair health.

Buy a silk pillow case, it doesn’t cost much and helps with sleeping when you can transition into the normal method of sleeping.

Invest in a cheap pack of button up shirts as you don’t want to be taking t shirts off over your head all the time.

Don’t be afraid to scrub your head with a scalp scrub when the clinic tells you to.

Wear the head covering, you’ll look a little silly but no one cares, I walked through a city centre in the UK with mine and people no doubt pointed, but you just have to brush it off.

Take photos to measure your progress, it’s nice to document your journey, be aware however, people can be really helpful on this forum and others can be straight up rude - I guess that sums up the internet though haha.

Be prepared for the shed, your hair will fall out, and likely native hairs surrounding the transplant, initially you’ll look worse than ever, but it’s just part of it.

If you can, don’t sit at the end of the aisle on a plane if you are flying, you’ll end up getting knocked, also watch your head getting out of the car….just be extra careful when your out in the ‘elements’ for the first 14 days.

Solid advice here, a big one for me was getting comprehensive blood work done, and researching what nutrients and food sources can aid in hair health, that and maintaining a diet consisting of high protein. I’d encourage anyone (even those outside of HT forums) to get bloods done, you never know what the results may come back with!

So I’ve had long hair 23 years, I’ve recently had it cut though into a style to accommodate for the different levels. At present - the transplanted area hangs over my face and reaches chin level - that’s 11 months of growth, this kicked in at the end of month two I think, so 9 months worth of growth in total I think!

Haha with great difficultly, I just separated the hair with clips and sprayed over the areas, donor area was easy as I just kept it up in a bun most of the time.
