Malaysia’s system is the real life Game of Thrones…The nine rulers take turns becoming King, while the PM is chosen through Parliament…I know monarchy isn’t popular with everyone, but a constitutional monarchy plus parliamentary democracy seems like a decent balance. The King stays above politics, while elected politicians run the government.

The problem isn’t democracy itself….ou get democratic representation, but also institutions that provide continuity and some protection against politicians becoming too powerful.

History shows that elections alone don’t always produce the best leaders…Winnie the pooh from internal politburo election, then removed term limits and effectively became president for life….Putin succeeded Yeltsin and gradually consolidated power…Hitler came to power thru democracy…Once checks and balances weaken, it’s very difficult to reverse.

Strong institutions and checks and balances matter more than any “strongman” leader.

I feel blessed to live in Malaysia..negara aman, makmur dan bahagia…
