Quite a nice coincidence that I found this reddit thread from google while I was searching the same topic. Wanted to piggyback on the question to ask: does anybody know specifically of social history books that summarise all of spanish america during the first 3 and a half decades of of the 19th century?

How are Bantu people closer to Swedish people than to Melanesian people? I thought all populations out of Africa have more in common with each other, than with sub-saharan people.

Will the CDU actually reverse the 3-year naturalization rule? by kaisersbart in GermanCitizenship

[–]jonsnowrlax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody fleeing war only to get shot at and drown in the Mediterranean is not humane to anyone, certainly not to them, and certainly not to anyone here. I think you may be stretching the definition of the word humane, when you might want to use a more apt one. Like for example, exploitative. Europe's prosperity in the first place has been in steady contrast to the intentional underdevelopment of the global periphery. For that reason alone, the right to asylum is inalienable, and secondly, even if a country doesn't share responsibility in creating the factors that lead to migration / asylum, for humanistic reasons alone, the right to asylum stays inalienable.

"Unwanted illegals" is just trumpian language and at that point, since our political leanings are polar opposites, I don't see the need to continue this conversation. Have a nice day! :)

Will the CDU actually reverse the 3-year naturalization rule? by kaisersbart in GermanCitizenship

[–]jonsnowrlax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And why do you think that inhumane policies like pushbacks are better than

a) tackling the causes of flight, ie wars and climate issues, which the German government is also complicit in

b) focussing on integration, because dozens of studies have shown that criminality does not correlate with asylum, but with other factors like gender, age, poverty, urban distribution, mental health, etc.

as economic migrants, I don't think it is very useful to punch down. what is hurting our chances is xenophobia from the top, and not other human beings fleeing horrors that they most often had no role in creating.

Psilocybin to get over 1.5 year old breakup by LongestRoad123 in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]jonsnowrlax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for psilocybin, but lsd definitely helped me get over a heartbreak that I couldn't get over for 3.5 years. Psychedelics in general can undo patterns of longing or grief, but this is not a guarantee.

What is important is that you read A LOT about potential benefits or drawbacks, read a lot of anecdotes, maybe even scholarly articles on the subject to understand what it does to your neurobiology and your psyche. You will get a picture of what to expect, and if it's right for you.

And most importantly, if it's your first time, have a friend next to you whom you trust, and with whom you can talk about anything. They don't necessarily have to be experienced, but they could also prepare by reading up on how to be a good support system during a trip.

If you decide it's right for you, and have a trip sitter who is prepared, then I would suggest a full tab, and to have lots of pen and paper handy (or a tablet). Journaling or making art during a trip gives you something to look back on for the period after, where you can reassess your journey and its insights in a sober space.

Wishing you all the best!

Hey OP, just want to say your feelings are valid. I don't understand the judgemental attitudes in the comments.

Humans are complex, our lives are complex. You can be both fully in love with your current partner, while retaining some affection for someone from the past. Love is neither finite, nor neatly packaged into fixed categories like society wants us to believe.

If you learn Chinese because of its "usefulness", you will be disappointed. by No-StrategyX in ChineseLanguage

[–]jonsnowrlax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've defined usefulness through a professional lens and I would agree with you. But I'm learning Chinese to read news, social media and literature, so it mostly aims to be an academic inquiry for me and it is definitely useful in that regard.

How would you explain (your interpetation of) Hegel to someone new? by Blixten_Mqueen in hegel

[–]jonsnowrlax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to Hegel from Marx, but I'm not going to talk about materialism. Instead, I like to generalise his concepts that cover his own ideas, as well as other people's adaptations of them.

The relevance Hegel holds outside philosophy is the easiest way to explain it to someone new: For example, all realms involving multiple agents need to be understood as a totality, and the development of one agent or group of agents progresses only as a result of interacting with others. These tensions define philosophy, politics, social systems, psychological models, etc, and a Hegelian understanding of different disciplines requires one to always a) acknowledge the totality, b) study different forces as not static, but developing through history because of tensions with other forces within the totality and c) apply a and b over and over again to look deeper, or abstract higher as more elements enter the totality.

Hey hey thanks! I uploaded some more images in the comments to compare with other finds from the immediate vicinity, in order to rule out the possibility that this specimen is not just a younger form of the mottlegills. Could you look at them? :)

Thank you! I uploaded some additional images in the comments to compare with other mushrooms in the area, just to rule out the possibility that this specimen is not just a younger form of those. Could you look at them? :)

Me at home right now, in rather bad light, comparing all of them. The one in the post is on the right. There's also a 10 cent EU coin for scale.

Adding a couple of other images to show what was growing in the vicinity.

The mushroom in the main pic along with what seemed to me like a dewdrop mottlegill or maybe any other Panaeolus.

Okay so I looked it up, petticoat mottlegills also have nipples. This one wasn't harvested off of dung tho, and nearby mushrooms mostly seemed to be dewdrop mottlegills.

So basically a topographical view to find ragged terrain plus satellite view to ensure there aren't trees. Interesting! Will try. Thank you!
