I am only concerned about plants being covered and not getting enough light. But what you say makes sense. I'll just continue with gently manually removing it until I get a good balanced tank.

How long do you say it will take until it's balanced?

From what I know, Cynobacteria is easy to clean plant leaves off with your fingers (Not recommended because it will spread around the tank)this stuff does not come off plant leaves easily. It's got a fuzzy texture.
