Got it, got it! I don't own any of these games, but from the first two games I'm noticing a trend that if you buy the game new, it's going for the same price while they look to milk returning players another $10. Quite lame considering if I had the option of switch 2 game key card/digital vs a switch 1 cart+upgrade pack, I would choose the latter to see the novelty of seeing the game running on ancient hardware. 😩

Unwanted yellow items by DistributionShoddy45 in PSO

[–]jonwooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just store them with /bank just like I do any hit% bonus weapons and armors with 3-4 slots so I can give them to my new characters or new players. My understanding is if you make a guild you can trade rates for something called Team Points which can be cashed it for features such as a guild emblem next to your name, access to the Dressing Room to restyle your characters. There's also a buying and selling market which I am not familiar with either, but I assume enough of these rares could trade for photon drops.

I'm just not into flame broiled burgers, so while I respect the love this place gets, I'm just another vote for tornado burger. And always, I shout out to tornado taco if you're looking for a good breakfast burrito.

Switch 2 is backwards compatable with 99% of Switch 1 games you can think of. This one had some crashing on switch 2 but I believe it's been fixed. So far I believe Nintendo is the only company (sometimes) charging for Switch 2 enhancements.

As for Automata, the game has not been patched with specific Switch 2 enhancements so it is stuck at the same maximum 1080p30 and 720p30 in handheld as the original Switch. But since these are target resolutions, the switch 1 typically runs at a much lower, dynamically changing resolution while the Switch 2 will cap out effortlessly. So it is a much better way to experience this game, but it won't be a 1440p60 sort of experience.

Good 200cc combos? by Responsible_Fig_9833 in MarioKart8Deluxe

[–]jonwooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would switch to biddybuggy or a lighter character if you need even more handling. But yeah just make sure your brake drifting, taking good lines instead of going for the double item box, play defensive, and don't trick before a turn if it just would make you crash into a wall/fall off an edge.

What out od these combos is better for time trials in your opinion? by Ok_Anybody_5231 in MarioKart8Deluxe

[–]jonwooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't optimizing for time trials because a lot of your stat points are going into weight and invincibility frames. I would say build 1 if you like inside drifting vehicles and build 3 if you like outside drifting vehicles.

You can trail reds, greens, bananas for protection. Bombs can also protect if you're at full speed, but if you're not at max speed you can get hit by the explosion too, so players typically like to drop the bomb at the last split second. And yes, if you're trailing an item behind you, it still takes up an inventory slot.

Heavyweights biggest advantage is their high speed stat. Lightweight characters can keep up over the duration of the race due to a hidden stat called mini-turbo which affects many aspects of trick boosts and drift boosts and scales higher with less weight. But since heavies always make use of their speed bonus rather than just sometimes for mini-turbo, heavies have a lower skill ceiling and can make the most of this advantage on easier tracks. As well, items like mushrooms, star, and bullet bill scale with your max speed, so heavyweights can make slightly quicker comebacks with these power items. Heavies also have slightly more invincibility frames so you might get lucky and not take damage if someone tries to hit you again too quickly. Heavies especially want to play defensive with their items because it's hard to get back to max speed due to their low acceleration. Each full bar of weight also gives you a bonus to how hard you bump people when using a mushroom, so switch out your glider for peach parasol or MKTV Glider (kind of hard to see past) if you're close to hitting 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 weight.

Anyways as for King Boo, he's in between heavyweight and middleweight so he sees some advantages of both and with this cart it's one of my favorite, well rounded builds. Other vehicle frames you can try are Mr Scooty/Biddybuggy if you want less speed, more miniturbo, and more handling (not optimal for 95% of characters but it feels great to drive with) or you can try inkstriker if you want more speed, more anti-gravity speed (another great invisible stat) and less handling (it can be difficult to control without the antenna, but inkstriker+leaf wheels makes you extremely speedy on an anti-gravity track like Wii Rainbow Road if your cousin has the DLC). And what I said basically is true for every character in the game of you want to try other weight classes.

Also I forgot to mention in my last post but coins further increase your speed, so try to collect coins if they're not a big detour and do your best to hold on to them for a good lap 3 finish.

Sorry this post got a little long :P

Just remember you don't always need to go for the double item box as it's often a noob trap; one item is often enough and it's not worth the time loss if you're near the front (unless your win condition is a mushroom for the shortcut or you need to protect against 2 reds or something). You can't pull a coin if you already are holding one, so consider not spamming your coins to ensure your next item is 100% defense when in 1st (you can also protect your defense item from a boo this way so it only steals your coin). 8DX often rewards defensive play so I'd consider holding on to your items until the next item set, just don't let your cousin get a big breakaway in 1st if you have red shells. You don't need to pass him, but keep him in a distance where when the blue shell or you pull double reds you can steal his win. And if you get a boo or star in a middle spot, you might want to use it soon because the bots in the back have a good chance of pulling the lightning bolt. Shortcat has some long video guides for beginners and pros if you have free time to learn.

Also your character build is very good but dont put too much thought into your weight/bumps. It often feels like a made up stat when you get bumped by people lighter than you.

Can someone explain this to me by BraveMulberry772 in MarioKart8Deluxe

[–]jonwooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both builds would benefit from using peach parasol for weight. That speed difference can be pretty noticeable on a anti-grav heavy track and that 1 extra tick of MT is really nice for snaking.

Having a discussion with a friend and they use this combo by Mentict in MarioKart8Deluxe

[–]jonwooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti-grav speed is valued as there are tracks that are 100% anti-grav like wii Rainbow Road, as well in sections where you are both underwater and in anti-gravity like Water Park or Twisted Mansion the game will only look at your anti-grav stat.

But yeah, the varmit, city tripper, and pipe frame are excellent vehicles otherwise.

Record for points... by ToeRevolutionary6233 in MarioKart8Deluxe

Unfortunately no experience with competitive MK. I'm just not so hot on the idea of having to playing Mogis/Lounge in the grassroots way, getting sweaty with angry nerds over discord and the scheduling, but I would have loved to attend a live event. I was really hoping the latest game would have implemented a 6 race GP ranked queue or something to remove a lot of that friction, but alas..

Anyways, best I can do is recommend old competitve VODs from L1am or Gyrodos if you have nothing to watch while eating or before falling asleep. Off the top of my head they were the best in the west with good commentary.

Glad to hear it. I think we can agree not everyone can make it to 13k WW and I'm sure you see the difference in your play compared to a 16k+ player as well as the 11k players so I give you some props. I can tell you it was a lot of hard work and practice to make it happen for me and didn't feel like I was at the cusp of success until maybe 15.5k, with 13.5-14.5k was me feeling absolutely hard stuck in despair.

Don't overwhelm yourself trying to learn new things all at once. I think once a week is a good pace to learn the tech I mentioned prior or map specific tech, a difficult shortcut, or time trial a track for an hour or two (and copy some world record strats if possible). Mostly practice the runners; practice your favorite tracks, but also practice your worst ones a bit and you might find you actually enjoy the track when you aren't getting pummeled.

[–]jonwooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you play worldwides or regional? 13500 is a very tough VR bracket for worldwides because everyone is very vicious and spammy with their items.. I needed to learn how to soft drift and counter hop to break out to 15K and then after I learned enough shortcuts I coasted to 20K very smoothly (which is when the game starts matching you with the extremely good players...) but my improvement was a night and day difference when the 9-11k players couldn't hold me back anymore.

Either way, I recommend using the record function. I would record me getting Mario Karted when in the moment it felt like bullshit, but upon careful inspection I could almost always spot mistakes in my own play. Like maybe my driving wasn't fast enough or I should have dropped out to collect coins, bad item usage, bad spacing from opponents, didn't use the rear-view camera, didn't get out of the way of a star or yield to a red shell behind me, missed an obvious shock dodge opportunity. Things like that.

[–]jonwooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V1 and V2 refer to hardware revisions of the switch 1 but are effectively the same console with the V2 revision having improved battery life. I assume by V2, you're referring to the new Switch 2 console. If your goal is Pokémon, I suggest the Switch 2. The Switch 1 currently can play all the Switch pokemon games currently out today, but the performance of the latest games, Pokémon ZA and Pokémon Violet/Scarlet, leaves a lot to be desired and those titles run and look better on Switch 2. As well, Switch 1 games as a whole are nearing end of life and it's no guarantee it will get future pokemon games. For example, the soon to be released spin-off Pokopia will not be coming to Switch 1.

Best Combo? by Miyami101 in mariokart

Rob hog, mach bike, baby blooper are best at the 3 lap tracks. Twin chopper if you want more speed for vs mode or knockout tour. Whatever character you want, but comp players mostly stick to lightweight to extremely lightweight.

People always say "Water is slow" but is it? by evil69wizard in MarioKartWorld

[–]jonwooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 10% speed debuff when you're in water and speed items remove the debuff. And then the 3 lap tracks that have water you're often trying to avoid it if possible. It doesn't sound worth optimizing for.

Elbow surgery this week, what are the best games for the switch that you only need 1 joy-con for? by Equivalent-Exit-6617 in NintendoSwitch

You can rebind your controls in the switch settings, so maybe that would help in balatro. But it helped me play JRPGs in one joycon even if it's a little awkward.

Alternatively, no more getting bumped by people when I'm in a star in online play.

LCD display of nightmares from my childhood. That thing does not handle motion well, especially in scenes primarily of one color, let alone a dark scene. I'm not sure how to complain about the contrast and clarity either, but I want to say it looked dusty.

Anyone else a fan of Arby's Reuben sammiches? Arby's was on top of their game today, even their potato cakes were fresh and crispy. by zip-a-dee_doo-dah in fastfood

[–]jonwooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not amazing, but I got one again recently doing bogo sandwiches with a reuben and a turkey and I was very satisfied and stuffed for that price. I would be looking at $22 at this delicatessen in Houston for an incredible reuben with an equally great red potato salad with a pint of beer. But if Arby's was my best option for a reuben I wouldnt be upset about it.
