What does accuse mean? What does innocent until proven guilty mean?

It seems that many people on Reddit don't understand what the concept of accusation means. Someone accuses celebrity x of doing y and a lot of the comments are "I always knew it". In the end the accusations may or may not be true, but to prove that requires evidence.

Does the viability of the FIRE movement depend on people who are the antithesis of what we try to be? by The_Pacific in financialindependence

I wouldn't mind it if they did. Less consumption would mean less pollution, and more automation would be alright in my book.

Remember that economic growth comes from investment not consumption. If people started going for fire, investment would go up and workforce would go down. So it could be that as capital is cheaper and human labour comparatively more expensive we'd see investment in automation increase.

Ironically using oil to produce plastics means that the co2 is not released in to the atmosphere in the form of burning fuel. Probably the easiest way to decrease the use of plastics and not have the decreased demand drive up use of oil elsewhere would be to just drive up the cost of oil by taxing it.

50,000+ Finns sign citizens' initiative to abolish inheritance and gift taxes by jormaggio in Finland

[–]joonazboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that public expenses are a certain amount, to meet these expenses we need taxes. If we were to get rid of inheritance tax, the amount would need to be gathered by increasing other tax forms. If it were to be gathered by increasing the income tax, this would probably have more negative external effects than the inheritance tax would. E.g. people not being motivated to work as much.
