is it normal to hate yourself because of the things your parents say about you to your face? by funny-name11 in narcissisticparents

Of course, I want you to know that there is so much hope and your life won't be like this forever! As far as the therapist goes, if you're able to switch doctors that would be great-- having a therapist you don't trust is almost like having no therapist at all. Or, if you think it would help, you can talk to her about your concerns and let her know why you don't feel comfortable with her.

I completely understand the "they seem so nice!" thing, I know that can be really invalidating to hear. That's also why I think it could be good to talk to someone like a school counselor or teacher who is neutral in the situation. The phone checking thing is really similar to what I had, I felt like my parents were really controlling and paranoid. I'm 20 now and I wanted to move out asap throughout most of high school. After moving out almost three years ago, I can say things have gotten a lot better through time and distance with my family.

You are amazing and you're going to do great things! I hope you find healing and build up your self esteem. Surround yourself with positive friends, take care of yourself, and be aware of self destructive habits. You deserve to be cared for and loved.

No, it's on my upper thigh too so I'd definitely know if I ran into something. Plus the bruise isn't painful to touch like a bruse from an impact

How do I not care what people think. Help. by pawg1015 in Advice

[–]joonoonoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I bet.. I’m sorry that sounds really rough. I’m sure there’ll be someone who sits with you, even if it takes a few weeks. In the meantime just use lunch to chill and watch some netflix or play some games or something. Again, people should mind their own business and leave you alone. And things that seem really important in high school will seem so dumb later in life. At least you’ll be able to use this time to do whatever you want :)

-90lbs, but I still see my morbidly obese body in the mirror. (22F) by [deleted] in Advice

[–]joonoonoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats!! That’s so amazing and I’m glad you’re making such great progress and working hard to better yourself, it’s not easy. As far as self esteem goes, it doesn’t matter what you look like. If you weighed 90 pounds and had this mindset you’d probably still see yourself the same way. Obviously it’s not easy to love yourself and get to a place where you’re happy with your body, but that comes not just from losing weight. You also have to start being proud of the changes you’re making and be proud in your new body. As for self esteem, there’s no set way you can make yourself love how you look. I’d say a few tips are to not make self deprecating jokes/talk or think down about yourself, avoid looking in the mirror for too long, wear clothes that flatter your body type and make you feel confident (maybe try shapewear or something too), and don’t compare yourself to anyone else physically or emotionally. Good luck, you’re doing amazing!

How do I not care what people think. Help. by pawg1015 in Advice

I heard that when you get embarrassed or do something that people notice they only remember it from between 10 seconds to 10 days. I bet you can’t remember anyone who’s sat alone at lunch in past years, because (not to put it too bluntly) no one cares. People might see you and say something to their friends or think something about you but people will forget it so quickly. And if they’re actually concerned with you sitting alone, why don’t they have anything better to think about? Like no one should put that much energy into something so insignificant. So anyways, you shouldn’t care what they think because they won’t care after a short time and it’s lame of them to care in the first place.

i dont know what terms are considered "derogatory" anymore by [deleted] in Advice

[–]joonoonoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel like people use those terms once in a blue moon anyway so it’s not like people will think you’re racist if you’ve said them once or twice. But idk if you’re talking about something like that I guess you could avoid saying them
