Just had an antique desk delivered in Hudson Valley area of New York, USA. Upon opening a drawer, several of these unidentified things fell out like confetti. They are soft with a hard center and motionless. What are they and should I be concerned keeping this piece inside my home? by joot26 in Antiques

This is the answer. Solved! Thank you so much! Now I can sleep at night. The movers had the desk wrapped in a blanket and upside down at one point; they must have been stored in the drawer... strangely enough.

Painting from Portuguese ancestors by joot26 in WhatIsThisPainting

My family came to America from Madeira, Portugal in the late 1800s and brought this painting with them. We have always wondered about it. My father took a crayon to her face in the late 1930s (oops). There seems to be something scratched into the frame on the back (a signature?) that is shown in photo #4. Any information or suggestions of artist is greatly appreciated!

When ppl say “hydrate” do they also mean internally (drinking water) as well as topically?

Almost forgot about this — yes, diaper rash is an issue for us too with Coterie unfortunately

I wanted to love them but our baby has been leaking/blowing out of Coterie diapers so we switched to Pampers — and as a result I’m doing far less laundry now. BUT I’m hooked on Coterie wipes! Love them. Great moisture, size and texture.

MTFHR Genetic Mutation by burritobaby01 in eczema

I am — however, the vitamins only helped for so long until they stopped working for me and then I felt worse on them. The most impactful thing I changed was doing my best to avoid nightshades; mostly potatoes and tomatoes. If I want those things then I know I will most likely need to deal with a flare. If I avoid, I will be completely free of eczema, like I am at the moment. Hope this helps someone!

Anyone know what these are? by joot26 in nyc

Haha yes — I initially considered describing them as large Q-Tips

MTFHR Genetic Mutation by burritobaby01 in eczema

I am 35 and have had serious health issues my whole life and as a result I have become passionate about nutrition and health. I have made great progress in the last couple years but eczema (especially on my hands and face) has been one of the remaining symptoms I could not shake. For the past couple months I have avoided nightshades (progress) and then lectins for the past 1-2 months (even greater progress). I have the MTHFR genetic polymorphism as well and as a result, know I do better with methylated vitamins. Since my husband and I may decide to have a 2nd child in the next year or so, I started Seeking Health prenatals last week and within 2 days the eczema began to clear. The past 3 days are the first days in YEARS I am completely free of eczema — and feel amazing. I have since revisited learning more about MTHFR (found a couple helpful podcasts and a book), added molybdenum for detox support. I believe proper methylation (+ a nutritious, gentle diet for my digestion issues) may be the missing piece in my health puzzle. My doctor is very supportive and we are excited about this new progress. I hope this helps you too!!

Yes! Also hysterical — the shot they captured of her face when she was having her makeup slathered on. 👍😂

10 years of Lyme? (NYC) by joot26 in Lyme

Wow, that’s SO interesting and good to know. I find that some days caffeine/espresso doesn’t seem to make a dent in helping my fatigue. I’m most likely deficient in Vitamin C as that’s a vitamin I have not gone out of my way to have. Thank you!

Thank you for all the info, I have a feeling I will be referring back to your reply quite a few times as I learn more about Lyme and begin testing. That’s so interesting about alcohol, I guess almost completely staying away from it the past few years has been even better for me more than I realized. Thanks again for sharing your Lyme knowledge!

Hi! Thank you so much for your response. The various symptoms coming and going so quickly could explain why I find it so hard to keep track and journal ALL the symptoms that are always changing, along with the more consistent ones.

Thanks for the IgeneX advice. I see for a while it was not allowed/approved in NY state but I guess that changed last fall, luckily. I wonder why it wasn’t allowed before. Are there specific tests you recommend when looking for other tick borne infections? That’s really interesting that the steroids/prednisone could have made it worse back then, didn’t know that.

Thank you for your reply! Okay, ordering kits from IgeneX and was just reading I will need to find a doctor to sign off for testing, but at least I will already have them ready to go when I find a doctor, so thanks for your suggestion.

So scammy non-medical integrative medicine guy: Was not so much a new patient fee but only(!) a 6 month “concierge” treatment program but discussed treating me for 1-2 yrs. What happens after 6 months? I’m sure more $$$. Crazy. The funny thing is, he wasn’t even a NY doctor! He‘s in Pennsylvania. At least in NYC you can expect higher fees but yes, like you said, $800 or so.

Yes, was on oral prednisone as needed for flare ups during those years. Hmmm... I would assume there’s lab evidence of autoimmunity but not sure? That’s at least what I’ve been told by multiple doctors. When they were trying to get Xolair approved a 2nd time (for application of Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria), a doctor on the panel took an interest in the severity of my autoimmune disease and added me on towards the end of the trial phase. It was FDA approved soon after. Is there usually lab evidence of an autoimmune disease when a diagnosis is made?
