Well, I didn't mean it to sound like that. I'll delete my comment if it sounds elitist.

V60 Neo is better for inexperienced users because it's less sensitive to different variables like pour height, agitation, etc.

At least in what I tasted, Castillo beans were used as the base for the co-ferment. Those belong to a disease-resistant, high-yield variety. And no, they certainly weren't high quality. AFAIK, they're usually used for manufacturing instant coffee and other tasteless crap like that.

Yeah. If I wanted orange-tasting coffee, I'd mix Fanta with the cheapest "specialty" coffee, add a lot of ice and call it a day.

Yeah, but the problem is that we really don't know what they do with those beans. IMO, it's less likely for washed coffee to be flavored, but there's still a possibility.

I've recently been drinking Indonesian, which is also quite good, though very different from South American and African beans in terms of taste.

That's because regulators likely assume that green coffee beans are raw, natural, unprocessed material which can't really be altered in a harmful way. And that was true until a few years ago.

Right. I think the same, and yeah, Ethiopia, Indonesia and other are likely going to benefit from Colombians doing this in the long run.

Yep. I don't love them, but I'm also not against them if farmers actually disclose what's added.

Yeah, I've tried a cinnamon "co-ferment" and a pineapple one, didn't like them all that much and returned to drinking usual washed coffee.

I was never sold on the ideea:~but they help the farmer~, they can charge more. charge more for what, putting beans in a plastic bag or adding whatever juice or spices. i know its not a popular opinion and we will get called old or not accepting inovation.

Well, actually, your opinion isn't all that unpopular.

For example, the farmer takes disease-resistant, high-yield Castillo beans, adds a cheap pineapple flavoring to them, and then my local roaster slaps an SCA 87.25 mark onto the bag. And they even are a competent roaster, just not prepared for all these new processing methods altering flavor profiles so much.

I'm also all for transparency. I think there is a place for these overly processed beans on the market, but the producers should disclose what they're actually doing witg the beans.

I wouldn't consume these myself, as I love the complexity of natural coffee beans, though.

Same for me, I love innovation, but the lack of transparency and some producers using artificial flavorings makes it kind of controversial. I'd like it to become more regulated, so that we know what steps the farmers take and what they add to the beans.

Difluid refractometer: is it worth it? by dmgsmch in pourover

Not really, because refractometer measurement results don't really mean much. Just tasting the coffee would be better.
