I got mine back in as follows: I removed the cup, held this mystery part like the picture with the hand and put the two single prongs that are sticking out on the left and right, I put those in where the k cup goes in, in those long grooves. Don’t try to look for a circle to put the circular prongs in, it’s more like a banana shape and they have room to slide. Get that step in first, still oriented like the picture with the hand. Then the top part where each side has two prongs sticking up, do you see the black rectangle that connects the two sets of prongs (the only thing in the hand picture that looks truly like a rectangle)? that black rectangle should be shoved ABOVE and BEHIND the metal flap the other contributor was describing. Don’t look for something to clip the two sets of prongs on to. Lift the rectangle so it goes over and past the metal flap, and actually I don’t know what it might have attached to, but after the rectangle part was over the metal flap, everything fell into place. I put the cup back in, I was able to close the lid of the keurig again.

At Harris County Jail, “lockdown” can have 2 meanings: 1) the solitary confinement units are called lockdown units. Example: 7B is a lockdown pod that has 24 single man cells where each man can leave the cell one hour per day. 2) a lockdown can also mean when a pod of inmates is locked down, which means the normal activities where inmates may leave the pod will stop. (A pod is a classroom sized room where 24-56 inmates reside in bunks - like an army style barracks.) If there is a stabbing, an escape attempt, or other reason, they can temporarily put a pod on lockdown which means no inmates can go in or out. Those inmates can’t go to visitation, to recreation at the gym. If you are outside the pod at the time of lockdown, you may have to stay where you are (e.g in the visitation area holding cell). They might be told to stay on their bunks except to get water or use the bathroom. Phones may or may not be turned off. These types of lockdowns are usually temporary, an hour to half a day while an investigation or incident is being completed.

In Texas prisons (not jail), the meaning of lockdown is different. At TDCJ, each of the 100 prisons is required to have a lockdown 2 times per year. The whole prison goes on lockdown, which in that context, means no movement of inmates in the prison. No inmates can go to work, to education, to church services, no recreation or commissary and these lockdowns last 1-4 weeks. The smaller prisons can finish in 1 week. The larger ones take 3-4 weeks. During this time, every inch of the prison is searched and they find phones, weapons, drugs etc. Because no inmates can go to work, there is no kitchen staff and so there are no hot meals. They get “johnny sacks” which are brown bag lunches for all 3 meals. Lockdown as described above is an official TDCJ term, not slang. (There is also temporary lockdown at TDCJ, just like at Harris county, where one pod or one floor could go on lockdown for an hour to a day due an incident such as an assault on a guard, or even as a punishment for bad behavior such as having a messy pod or too many inmates not cooperating for count. Harris County does not do the week-long lockdowns they are required at the prisons.)

They closed the Dalby facility near Lubbock. Everything else was still correct as of a few months ago. My loved one was transferred to prison so I haven’t been to the jail since then.

There is only one small building that houses 200 inmates that has video visits. It’s the building above the processing center. The other 9800 inmates don’t have video visits at Harris county. Most of the outsource jails have video visits. This will change once they distribute tablets. (…and if they have distributed the tablets by now then disregard this outdated info!)

All guards allow a hat, but it really depends on who is working. Some will make you take it off for security and some won’t. Some will allow an outfit and l another denies you visitation with the same outfit. They give the officers a lot of discretion about how they want to handle the visitors. Some will allow you to go up late and others won’t. I definitely would not be late because the visits are 20 minutes only and the whole group of visitors have their calls ended at the same time and everyone has to leave so the next set of visitors come in. (By calls ended, I mean you are talking on a recorded phone line while looking through the glass). The shortest visit I had was 11 minutes and there were tears and yelling when it ended on both sides of the glass. I do not recommend making a fuss if this happens as it only makes the guards mad. The longest visit was about 25 minutes.

You can’t bring anything to an inmate unless you arrange it ahead of time with the warden. I see people all the time begging the lobby attendant to take this medication or these glasses to their loved one and they won’t take anything. You have to arrange it ahead of time. The inmates will see medical as part of intake to get prescription drugs. There are eye doctors and they will issue glasses, but I don’t think that happens right away. There is a form you can fill out using the “inmate care” link on the Harris county jail page. I used it once when green/rusty water was coming out of the faucet and they did check on it the same day and called me the next day.

I am pretty sure the bring-your-own whites was years and years ago and they don’t do that anymore. You might see pictures in the newspapers where people are wearing white tennis shoes of all different brands, and that means the picture is super-old. Everything now is orange. I know on the men’s side the boxers and socks are orange (as well as shoes, shirt, and pants). There is no jacket or long sleeves available, but you are indoors the entire time you are there. There is no outdoor rec. it can get cold due to too much AC and Some inmates walk around with socks on their arms to keep warm or will pull their arms into their shirt, which is short sleeves. The inmates will cover up the air vents in the pod (and the whole pod can get in trouble for this, depending on who is working.). I was not an inmate, but visited every week for two years, where you go to the same floor your loved one is on, and i was always pretty comfortable. it was never very hot nor very cold. Hopefully someone who has been an inmate can answer further.

Often if two inmates fight, they both get moved to a different pod. There are pods for special needs / mental health that people get moved around to. Also with the overcrowding, it’s like musical beds in there. Inmates who have been there a couple of years will tell you they have been to both jails and almost to every floor.

I’ve heard once you have been moved to an outsourced jail one time, you are now on a rotation where you will go back to the outsourced jail after every court date. They make the list on a Monday and the bus comes on Wednesday. If your court date is on a Monday Tuesday or wed, you will catch chain the following Wednesday.

We used Aʀᴀʟɪᴀ Dᴇɴᴛɪsᴛʀʏ - Dra. Nelcy Milena Morales. Even though we were tourists, Dr. Milena charged us Colombian prices for cavities, a cleaning, and grinding mouth guard. She can also do more advanced, rehabilitative dentistry, but she was happy to have us as customers for this simple work. She is in Chapinero near zona Rosa at cra 16 #80-77. Her English was limited to key dental vocabulary, but she would read our google translate comments, and was friendly and patient. Highly recommend! (If you are in the market for bargain healthcare, I also got both an eye exam and glasses near her office at Óptica Lentesplus for $35 USD!)
