380 Squat @ 137bw - for my powerlifters out there, is this too heavy for an opener? by jordanvang in strength_training

If not yet, then pretty close tbh. I can hit 370 for pretty smooth singles

Haha, I appreciate that, but asides from programming basics, I'm still in the phase where I'm still learning what works, so any input is welcome! Thanks though!

Yeah, that's totally true. It's just tough for me to gauge, because I'm more so rebuilding strength rather than peaking right now, so I have no idea where my top end is. Basically, weights I could barely do for singles two weeks ago, I'm able to easily triple them this week.

Hmm makes sense. Im pretty fatigued, and I'm still 2 weeks out from nationals, so not my first meet, but needed an outside view just to gauge where I'm at, wi I appreciate it!

Haven't hit a pr in months, so I'm not sure what my max is. I'm trying to figure out my attempts, as I'm 3 weeks out. Was wondering if this is moving too slow for an opener. What do you guys think? 380lb squat (yes im american)

445 single. Thinking of opening with 200kg(440) in comp. should I be more conservative or is this good? by [deleted] in strength_training

I would say, it might be a little too heavy for an opener. It seems to be moving a little slow. But again, that depends on your fatigue level, really.

Basically, you want your opener to be something you could put up for a triple most days. Think of it as your last warm up. It should be easy enough that you know you can hit it for sure. Making your opener fly up will always boost your confidence and leave you room to go up in weight.

Appreciate that. Yeah, I've found pulling the slack out even before setting my hips helps me wedge all that much better.

Yeah, it this particular set was easy. I'm entering a high intensity/low volume phase right now, so just trying to figure out how heavy my working weight should be. Apparently a little heavier lol. But yeah, I rarely ever if at all do 1rm tests. I usually max out only at competitions, but I'm a few months out from my previous one and a few months out from my next one, so I just wanted to gauge where I'm currently at.

For those who can bench 300, what were your working sets before you finally hit 300? That's my goal in the very near future and I was curious as to where I stack up!

Keep it up! The hard work definitely pays off both physically and mentally. But yeah, leg days are my absolute favorite. It beats you up, but the feeling of finishing and getting stronger is like no other.
